What is SGV CityWatch?
SGV CityWatch is a home-grown, local effort to bring situational awareness to the residents of the San Gabriel Valley with timely police, fire and traffic reports as they happen.
SGV CityWatch is not owned by a hedge fund. It's not owned by a corporation. It's not owned by a questionable business man who seeks to milk profits while keeping coverage to a minimum.
SGV CityWatch is me, Aaron Castrejon. I previously wrote at the grassroots news site Glendora City News, where I spent two years building tremendous brand recognition with a wide portfolio of content on crime, city hall, sports and feature stories and videos. Before GCN, I wrote with Patch.com, where I spent nearly three years covering all topics for Glendora, Altadena and more than 40 patch websites as a weekend crime stringer.
Crime affects us all, but unlike other issues, crime coverage is more heavily consumed by readers, which is why I choose to bring you such stories ... I am also fascinated with breaking police and fire stories.
Unlike other blogs and aggregation pages, I look for accurate information that the police scanner cannot bring. I also strive to bring you accurate information free of emotion, free of bias ... like a true journalist should.
Far too often, especially in television news, reporters espouse their personal beliefs and wear their heart on their sleeves in news stories, social media posts, perform charity drives, etc. and are expected to report on a myriad of issues without bias.
I strive to report on the news from a purely anthropological perspective: I observe, I record, I photograph, I ask questions, I write, I publish.
Journalists should not tell people what to think. Only what to think about. My goal is to bring you information. What you do with it is entirely up to you.
