The pedestrian, only described as a middle-aged male, was reportedly outside of a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred in northbound lanes. He died after being taken to a hospital, according to Sgt. Keith Sutherland of the Covina Police Department. First responders were sent to the location around 11:13 p.m. Friday, January 5. The driver called police to report the collision. Officers located the driver at a nearby business and took them into custody, Sutherland told SGV CityWatch. Alcohol and drugs did not factor into the crash, Sutherland told SGV CityWatch. The crash occurred on Badillo Street at Sunflower Avenue in unincorporated Covina around 1:03 p.m. November 29. The T-bone collision led to four people being trapped inside one vehicle and they required firefighters to free them from the twisted wreck, according to reports from the scene. “Upon our arrival, the Los Angeles County Fire Department was performing lifesaving procedures on one of the injured passengers. Unfortunately, the injured passenger succumbed to the injuries sustained and was pronounced deceased on scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. At least one person was transported to a waiting helicopter and flown to Los Angeles General Medical Center for further treatment. Alcohol was recovered at the crash scene, but deputies determined none of the drivers were under the influence, according to the Sheriff's San Dimas Station. The man broke free from a Good Samaritan who tried to pull him off the tracks. Witnesses told police the man intended to kill himself, according to Lt. Anthony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. First responders were called to Glendora Avenue at the railroad tracks at 7:21 p.m. July 24. The Good Samaritan was uninjured, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The Metrolink train, line 334 headed to downtown San Bernardino, struck the pedestrian. The train was held between Glendora Avenue and Cypress Avenue during the investigation. Trains resumed service with the delays up to 90 minutes, according to Metrolink. The train that struck the pedestrian was eventually canceled after moving ahead to the Pomona North Station. First responders were sent to East Badillo Street at North Banna Avenue around 7:35 p.m. The driver, the only person in the SUV, was unresponsive. Los Angeles County Firefighters declared the driver dead at the scene, according to Lt. Antonio Zavala of the Covina Police Department. Covina police traffic investigators are on scene conducting an investigation. Zavala was not yet sure if intoxicated driving played a factor. He didn’t know that Speed likely contributed to the fatal crash. Witnesses at the scene told officers that the SUV was being driven westbound on Badillo at the time of the crash, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Traffic on Badillo Street is blocked between Banna Avenue and Glendora Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched just after 1:30 a.m. June 12 to the intersection of Barranca Avenue and Cypress Street, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One vehicle was southbound on Barranca Avenue, the other was northbound when the collision occurred, according to Sgt. Derek Gonzales of the Covina Police Department. Gonzales did not yet know if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving were factors in the crash. Gonzales described some of the injured as being small children, but he did not have exact ages for all those who were hospitalized. A motorcycle is among the vehicles involved in the crash that likely claimed the life of the rider. It is difficult to say how many other vehicles in addition to the motorcycle were involved in the initial crash. Other vehicles have become disabled due to striking debris in the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol. at 6 a.m., a Sig Alert was issued for two hours. The CHP was initially dispatched to the crash on the eastbound I-10 freeway near Villa Verde Street at 5:30 a.m. October 24. Initially, the crash likely involve the motorcycle, a black Chevy Cruz and one other sedan. COVINA - Traffic lanes have reopened after a pickup truck crashed and came to rest on the right shoulder embankment on the I-10 freeway just west of Via Verde Saturday morning. A tan Chevrolet pickup truck crashed Just before 7:30 a.m. April 24 on the eastbound I-10 freeway. The driver is reportedly the only person found inside the crashed pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol. They were possibly as many as three other vehicles stopped in the center divider and on the right shoulder near the crash, but it is not clear yet if those vehicles were involved in a collision. The driver’s body was found partially hanging outside of the truck, but firefighters were reluctant to remove the driver until the coroner conducts an investigation, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Four of the six injured have already been transported to area hospitals. The people killed in the crash died at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A three-hour Sig Alert has been issued for all lanes except the No. 1 lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. The silver truck rolled over and came to rest on the front lawn of Charter Oak High School, 1430 E. Covina Blvd., around 7:35 a.m. The driver died at the scene, according to Lt. Trevor Gaumer of the Covina Police Department. Preliminary information suggests the driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash, Gaumer said. The girl was transported to an area hospital after being extracted from the truck with the jaws of life, Gaumer said. Eastbound Covina Boulevard near the high school is blocked during the collision investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor COVINA - A male pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle that hit a curb and destroyed a power pole on Arrow Highway Friday morning.
The victim killed was either standing or sitting on the sidewalk on eastbound Arrow Highway at Arrow Grand Circle when the driver of a vehicle lost control, jumped the curb struck the pedestrian and knocked down the pole, according to Covina Police Lieutenant Trevor Gaumer. The crash occurred just after midnight. Investigators do not believe alcohol, drugs or distracted driving were factors in the crash, Gaumer said. “Speed may have been [a factor]. There were some witnesses that believe the car was travelling at an unsafe speed, probably due to the rainy conditions,” Gaumer said. It was unclear how many customers were affected by power loss. The driver was cooperating with investigators at the scene of the crash. |
