The robbery was reported just after 7 a.m. Friday, July 14 in the area of Glendora Mountain Road and big Dalton Canyon Road near Colby Trail. The victim was robbed at knifepoint, according to the Glendora Police Department. A search was conducted with the help of a Pasadena Police helicopter, but the suspect has not yet been located. The suspect is described as a white man who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and has a blonde/grey beard. He wore a dirty white t-shirt, jean shorts and a black hat. The suspect is potentially a transient, according to the Glendora Police Department. Glendora police stated in a social media post that authorities were no longer searching for a suspect as of 10:42 p.m. and that road closures were over. It was not explicitly stated if a suspect was found. No arrest for a male robbery suspect exists in Glendora booking records, but records show 43-year-old Maria Luisa Valenzuela-Ayala was arrested at 2:09 p.m. at 750 W. Route 66. Valenzuela-Ayala was booked on suspicion of robbery. One suspect was killed by police gunfire after the suspect refused to comply with commands to surrender, according to Lt. Robert Westphal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The shooting took place in the driveway of the mixed-use Glendora Park Place Apartments, 633 W. Route 66 September 6. Glendora Police responded to Jamal Jewelry, 750 W. Route 66, around 12:15 p.m. Friday to a takeover robbery. Witnesses described two men armed with handguns. Arriving officers also found a woman parked in a nearby vehicle and later arrested her. Police from surrounding agencies aided by two helicopters searched for the fleeing suspect in neighborhoods south of the crime scene. One other suspect remains outstanding, with a containment and search focusing on the neighborhood south of the scene of the crime — Lamas Jewelry, 750 Route 66. The outstanding suspect is a black man with a thin build. He has short dreadlocks with hair shaved on the sides of his head and wore a black jacket or white shirt and blue jean pants, Glendora Police said. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team is working to locate a suspect. As of 5:15 p.m. a contingent of SWAT team members followed by a Glendora Police cruiser down Vecino Drive south of Route 66 where a search continues. A jewelry heist occurred around 12:15 p.m. September 6. As Glendora Police arrived, a woman was detained in a nearby vehicle. She was eventually arrested. The two fleeing suspects ran through the rear exit of the jewelry store. Police encountered an armed man in a parking lot in the 600 block of Route 66 where the shooting occurred after the suspect reportedly refused to comply with the officer’s commands, according to Lt. Robert Westphalia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Firefighters arrived at 12:34 p.m. and transported the injured suspect to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The two suspects robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint in the 200 block of South Grand Avenue around 10:50 a.m. The men, described as Black and wearing nursing scrubs, fled in a white SUV, which was spotted by officers patrolling nearby, according to Sgt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the SUV sped away and eventually crashed into a guardrail while attempting to turn south on Citrus Avenue from westbound Foothill Boulevard, Henderson said. The suspects fled the still-rolling SUV. One suspect fled into an Azusa neighborhood, while the second suspect fled onto the Citrus College Campus, 1000 W. Foothill Blvd. Nearby Azusa Pacific University and Citrus College were both placed on lockdown during a search. The suspect who fled onto Citrus College was found within minutes on the south side of the Student Services building, which faces Citrus Avenue. The second suspect changed his clothing while hiding in the nearby Azusa neighborhood. He was caught by searching officers while he tried to blend in after walking out onto Citrus Avenue, Henderson said. The stolen medication, as well as two handguns were recovered from the SUV. Booking information for the suspects was not yet available. No one was injured in the crash. |
