Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – Regional traffic collision investigators are determining what led to a crash between a motorcycle and SUV that killed a Claremont man October 4. Luke Pruitt, a 19-year-old Claremont resident, was the motorcyclist who died at the crash scene at Grand Avenue and Mauna Loa Avenue, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Pruitt, a Claremont High School graduate, is listed as a defensive lineman with the Citrus College football team and was playing in his sophomore year with the community college. Multiple 9-1-1 calls were made about the injury crash, which occurred around 11:23 a.m. Paramedics performed life-saving measures on Pruitt, according to Sgt. Michael Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. Pruitt was in his second season playing with the Owls and one of the Owls' team captains, According to a statement from the Citrus College Athletics program. "Luke was a defining presence for our program," according to Citrus College Head Football Coach Brandon Hayashi in a written statement. "He was a leader on and off the field, always greeting everyone with a big smile. We are devastated by this loss." Traffic collision investigators from the La Verne and Azusa Police departments assisted Glendora detectives with the investigation, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. Kevin Fernandez, 27, and Ahmad Ibrahim, 29, were booked at the Glendora jail. Fernandez, identified as a Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang member, was booked on suspicion of aggravated mayhem and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. Ibrahim was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and being a felony accessory after the fact, according to the Glendora Police Department. A stabbing was reported to police at Britestar Tavern, 731 W. Route 66, just before 12:30 a.m. May 22. One person was severely wounded. The suspects fled before officers arrived, according to the Glendora Police Department. Shortly after the Glendora stabbing, two suspects fled the scene of a stabbing at Elvie’s Inn, 610 Shopper’s Ln., in Covina. After Fernandez and Ibrahim were identified, Glendora detectives, assisted by Covina Police and Azusa Police detectives, located the duo and took them into custody. Ibrahim posted bond. Fernandez is being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of more than $1.1 million bail ahead of scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse July 1. Dylan Harmer was fatally shot by Azusa officers called to assist with a containment and search for the suspect after he allegedly attempted to carjack multiple drivers and allegedly aimed a handgun at police August 4. Glendora officers were called to a domestic violence report after a woman claimed her boyfriend assaulted her and that he was armed with a handgun. The suspect, later identified by the coroner as Harmer, fled the home as police arrived and he allegedly pointed the gun at them, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Glendora officers requested mutual aid from Azusa Police as a containment was set up. Arriving Azusa officers encountered Harmer as he attempted to carjack multiple drivers in the intersection of Glendora Avenue and Route 66. “The suspect turned and pointed a handgun at the officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Harmer was struck in the upper torso. No one else was injured. Harmer was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he died, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. A coroner exam is scheduled for Harmer. The suspect was struck in the upper torso and died after being hospitalized. No one else was injured. Before the pursuit even began, 41-year-old stolen vehicle suspect Richard Brady allegedly struck a Glendora officer and struck two Glendora Police vehicles while attempting to elude capture, the Glendora Police Department announced. A stolen SUV was discovered in an undisclosed motel parking lot. Glendora officers and detectives attempted to detain Brady as he was leaving a motel room, but he was able to get away, Glendora Police said. Brady struck the officer, patrol cars and an additional parked vehicle before even leaving the parking lot. Brady fled west on the 210 freeway until he crashed near Citrus Avenue and fled on foot, but he caught with the assistance of Azusa Police officers, Glendora Police said. “Brady is on probation for vehicle theft and he also had an arrest warrant for theft,” Glendora Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the case against Brady, charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading, vehicle theft and forgery. The officer who was struck sustained injuries and has since returned to work, Glendora Police said. The driver of the car stolen from Irvine refused to stop for Glendora offices after they noticed the older-model vehicle had paper plates at Gladstone Street and Barranca Avenue, said Glendora Police Sgt. Mike Randazzo. The officer initiated the traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. The driver sped along surface streets came to a dead end in the 5900 block of Rockvale Avenue where both occupants ditched the stolen ride, Randazzo said. A search by Glendora Police, Azusa Police and San Dimas Sheriff’s deputies yielded the arrest of the driver, 28-year-old Abraham Roman-Hernandez, in the 18000 block of Alford Street. The driver was hiding in a resident’s yard, Randazzo said. Hernandez listed Azusa as his city of residence, Randazzo said. Roman-Hernandez was booked on suspicion of unlawfully taking a vehicle, felony evading police, possessing a controlled substance and delaying an officer. Roman-Hernandez is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court September 17. The two suspects robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint in the 200 block of South Grand Avenue around 10:50 a.m. The men, described as Black and wearing nursing scrubs, fled in a white SUV, which was spotted by officers patrolling nearby, according to Sgt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the SUV sped away and eventually crashed into a guardrail while attempting to turn south on Citrus Avenue from westbound Foothill Boulevard, Henderson said. The suspects fled the still-rolling SUV. One suspect fled into an Azusa neighborhood, while the second suspect fled onto the Citrus College Campus, 1000 W. Foothill Blvd. Nearby Azusa Pacific University and Citrus College were both placed on lockdown during a search. The suspect who fled onto Citrus College was found within minutes on the south side of the Student Services building, which faces Citrus Avenue. The second suspect changed his clothing while hiding in the nearby Azusa neighborhood. He was caught by searching officers while he tried to blend in after walking out onto Citrus Avenue, Henderson said. The stolen medication, as well as two handguns were recovered from the SUV. Booking information for the suspects was not yet available. No one was injured in the crash.
