Before the pursuit even began, 41-year-old stolen vehicle suspect Richard Brady allegedly struck a Glendora officer and struck two Glendora Police vehicles while attempting to elude capture, the Glendora Police Department announced. A stolen SUV was discovered in an undisclosed motel parking lot. Glendora officers and detectives attempted to detain Brady as he was leaving a motel room, but he was able to get away, Glendora Police said. Brady struck the officer, patrol cars and an additional parked vehicle before even leaving the parking lot. Brady fled west on the 210 freeway until he crashed near Citrus Avenue and fled on foot, but he caught with the assistance of Azusa Police officers, Glendora Police said. “Brady is on probation for vehicle theft and he also had an arrest warrant for theft,” Glendora Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the case against Brady, charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading, vehicle theft and forgery. The officer who was struck sustained injuries and has since returned to work, Glendora Police said. An officer spotted the driver on Glendora Mountain Road around 12:14 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop of a white 1992 Honda Civic, but the driver refused to yield, according to Lt. James DeMond of the Glendora Police Department. The driver, Cesar Efran Figueroa Jr., 22, led police on a reckless pursuit on city streets through Glendora and into Azusa where the pursuit entered the westbound 210 freeway, DeMond said. Figueroa also reportedly drove in opposing lanes of traffic while evading officers, according to Lt. Mike Randazzo of the Glendora Police Department. The pursuit entered the south 605 freeway and the driver eventually stopped after 15 minutes and surrendered near the I-10 freeway, DeMond said. Figueroa was booked on suspicion of felony reckless evading, driving on the opposite side of a divided highway and excessive speed, Randazzo said. Figueroa is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, awaiting a scheduled appearance in the West Covina Courthouse September 18. The driver of the car stolen from Irvine refused to stop for Glendora offices after they noticed the older-model vehicle had paper plates at Gladstone Street and Barranca Avenue, said Glendora Police Sgt. Mike Randazzo. The officer initiated the traffic stop around 8:30 p.m. The driver sped along surface streets came to a dead end in the 5900 block of Rockvale Avenue where both occupants ditched the stolen ride, Randazzo said. A search by Glendora Police, Azusa Police and San Dimas Sheriff’s deputies yielded the arrest of the driver, 28-year-old Abraham Roman-Hernandez, in the 18000 block of Alford Street. The driver was hiding in a resident’s yard, Randazzo said. Hernandez listed Azusa as his city of residence, Randazzo said. Roman-Hernandez was booked on suspicion of unlawfully taking a vehicle, felony evading police, possessing a controlled substance and delaying an officer. Roman-Hernandez is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in West Covina Superior Court September 17. The suspect crashed in the area of Grand Avenue and Cortez Street. West Covina Police have a containment search set up to find the suspect. Glendora officers attempted to pull over the pursuit driver around 10:13 p.m. at Glendora Avenue and Baseline Road. The pursuit was terminated at Glendora Avenue and Juanita due to the suspect’s reckless driving, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The rider was detained and arrested about 10:52 p.m. on southbound Lope Lane, which is south of Route 66. The pursuit began on the eastbound 210 freeway near Grand Avenue. The rider refused to stop and led the CHP east into Claremont and Pomona at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. The pursuit wound its way along Garey Avenue north and south in the Pomona area and west along Foothill Boulevard in La Verne before reentering the 210 freeway westbound. The rider exited north on Lone Hill Avenue in Glendora and found his way south into the neighborhoods on Lope Lane before fleeing on foot. The rider was almost immediately detained and arrested. Jeffrey Madrinan, 30, was arrested Tuesday after refusing to stop for police who were responding to numerous calls of a prowler in the area of Foothill Boulevard near Glendora High School. Madrinan, who may suffer from mental issues, was fleeing because he though he was being chased, according to Sgt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. Glendora Police began receiving calls of a prowler around 11:57 a.m. Madrinan ran through numerous backyards and was seen on the grounds of Glendora High School, 1600 E. Foothill Blvd., near the tennis courts on the eastern side of campus. Officers located Madrinan who then led police on a two-block foot pursuit before he was arrested, Barrett said. Madrinan was booked on suspicion of prowling, resisting arrest and trespassing on school grounds. Additional booking information was unavailable. |
