The man was spotted on the transmission tower near the 210 and 57 interchange September 2. First responders were called to the location sometime around 4:50 p.m. The man climbed a little more than halfway up the transmission tower. He could be seen holding a large piece of rope, which was tied to the tower. The Los Angeles County Fire Department, Glendora Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department all responded. The man climbed down to safety sometime before 5:20 p.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. It is unclear how the man accessed the tower. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Three burglary suspects were arrested Monday night, caught after an attempt to lose Glendora officers in a La Verne neighborhood during a pursuit.
Glendora officers chased the suspects after they allegedly burglarized Kohl’s, 1225 S. Lone Hill Ave. Officers were called to the store at 6:22 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The suspects ditched their ride and fled on foot near East Gladstone Street and Damien Avenue, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. Two female suspects were caught and taken into custody while out on a sidewalk in a neighborhood, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. The male suspect was found hiding in a residential garage in the 500 block of Lesmar Drive. Victor Hugo Benitez, was arrested at 2:53 a.m. He is booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer with wonton disregard for public safety, burglary, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime, false imprisonment, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, intimidating or tampering with a witness, being a felon in possession of a firearm, robbery and a warrant from another police department. He is being held in lieu of $450,000 bail. Erica Elisabeth Mireles, 29, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. She was booked on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and on two warrants from another police department. She is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. Anissa Nicole Virgen, 19, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. She was booked on suspicion of burglary, identity theft, grand theft, check fraud, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools and on a warrant from another police department. She is being held in lieu of $275,000 bail. All three suspects are scheduled to appear in the West Covina courthouse Wednesday, May 17. Assisting with the search was the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station, Pomona Police Department, La Verne Police Department and a Pasadena Police helicopter. Joseph Castle, 44, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. He died of multiple gunshot wounds. The manner of death was homicide. Officers responded to 600 block of West Bridwell Street around 8:10 a.m. to numerous calls of a shooting, according to the Glendora Police Department. One victim, Castle, was found shot and still seated in a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The undisclosed item left in the Glendora Marketplace Parking lot near Best Buy, 1307 East Gladstone Street, brought a large contingent of police officers who directed vehicle traffic and pedestrians away from the scene. Officers were called to inspect the kitchen appliance at 7:05 p.m., according to Lt. Shelley Gold of the Glendora Police Department. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Arson/Explosives Detail was called to inspect the item and determined that it was safe, Gold told SGV CityWatch. Glendora officers took the kitchen appliance as “found property” and are keeping it in the event that someone may have purchased it and accidentally left it behind in the parking lot and would like to claim it, Gold told SGV CityWatch. The kitchen appliance had instructions included with it. The area was opened up to vehicle and pedestrian traffic around 10 p.m., Gold told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – A man accused of domestic violence was shot and killed by police after he allegedly attempted to carjack multiple drivers and pointed a gun at police, homicide detectives said Wednesday.
Glendora officers were called to a domestic violence report after a woman claimed her boyfriend assaulted her and that he was armed with a handgun. The suspect fled the home as police arrived and he allegedly pointed the gun at them, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Glendora officers requested mutual aid from Azusa Police as a containment was set up. Arriving Azusa officers encountered the unidentified suspect, only described as a white 20-25-year-old man, as he attempted to carjack multiple drivers in the intersection of Glendora Avenue and Route 66. “The suspect turned and pointed a handgun at the officers, at which time an officer-involved shooting occurred,” according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect was struck in the upper torso and died after being hospitalized. No one else was injured. Deputies ended their containment search around 10:30 a.m. after a suspect could not be found, according to Deputy Shawn Dubusky of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Several people were initially detained, but their current status was not immediately known, Dubusky told SGV CityWatch. GLENDORA - Deputies are searching for a suspect after possible gunfire was heard during an eviction service, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies were serving an eviction notice at the apartment complex in the 100 block of East Route 66 just after 8:30 a.m. they heard what they believed were several rounds of gunfire, according to Deputy Grace Medrano of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It is unclear if deputies at the scene have found ballistics evidence. No one was injured. the eviction notice was being served at Avalon Glendora, 121 E. Route 66. When eviction notices are served, deputies from a specific courthouse issue the notice, Medrano told SGV CityWatch. The deputies are being assisted by deputies from the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Glendora Police Department is asking everyone to avoid the area of Route 66 and Glendora Avenue. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Three people were arrested at the end of a short-lived escape after the driver crashed in front of a Glendora home Tuesday afternoon.
The driver of a blue minivan sped away from a deputy on westbound Gladstone Street near Lone Hill Avenue February 23. The driver and two passengers ran after crashing on the lawn of a home at Gladstone Street and Valley Center Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The incident occurred sometime before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. A patrol deputy attempted to stop the driver for multiple vehicle code violations, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspects may have tried to change their clothing in an attempt to alter their appearance, according to deputies at the scene of the crash. After the suspects ran, a containment was set up and all three suspects were soon found and taken into custody, the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station said. Deputies found what is believed to be stolen property inside the van, items including gardening equipment. All three male suspects were booked on suspicion of various charges, including possession of stolen property. Sgt. Saenz of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station detective bureau provided names of the arrestees: Daniel Erlander Cortez, 38; Michael Rodriguez, 21; and Miguel Rebolar, 31. All three men are from Pasadena. Cortez posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court April 1. Rodriguez was released on penal code 849(B)(1), citing insufficient/inadmissible evidence, or grounds for arrest. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Multiple sticks of dynamite estimated to have been in a basement for 70 to 80 years were slowly burned up to prevent a possible threat to residents Saturday.
The dynamite, apparently stored in the basement and kept secret, was found by family members of the owner in the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue around 1:30 p.m. The dynamite was apparently unstable, according to the Glendora Police Department. “The dynamite sticks were stabilized inside the residence, and then brought outside where they were burned in a controlled setting,” the Glendora Police Department said in a written statement. Residences were evacuated around the home for many hours while the scene was secured and bomb techs with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Arson/Explosives Detail worked. Assisting Glendora Police and the Sheriff’s Department were the Los Angeles County Fire Department and the American Red Cross. Someone cleaning out a relatives basement located what appears to be dynamite around 1:30 p.m. January 30. Glendora officers arrived to the scene and after seeing a picture of the suspicious items decided to call bomb squad technicians, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. “They are advising that it is unstable and they are in the process of stabilizing it and removing it from the home,” Celello told SGV CityWatch. And estimated 25 residences have been evacuated in the area. The Glendora Police Department is asking residents and curious onlookers to stay away from the 200 block of East Bennet Avenue. Access to the 200 block of East Bennett Avenue is blocked. The American Legion Building, 159 N. Cullen Ave., is serving as a evacuation center for residents only, Celello told SGV CityWatch. |
