Officers responding to burglary alarms at the businesses attempted to stop a vehicle leaving the area. The driver refused, according to the Glendora Police Department. The suspects evaded officers along surface streets and eventually onto the 210 freeway westbound. The suspects exited onto Marengo Avenue in Pasadena where the suspects stopped and surrendered. Oscar Isaiah Strange and Eric Devon Gulley were both arrested just after 3 a.m., according to Glendora Police booking records. Strange was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for public safety, burglary, vandalism exceeding $400, driving on a suspended or revoked license and failure to appear on a bench warrant, according to Glendora Police booking records. Officers arrived to a parking structure near the AMC 12 theaters on the report of a possible catalytic converter theft in progress. After locating a suspect vehicle, officers attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver eventually stopped in the middle of the street in the 800 block of South Cerritos Avenue in Azusa. The two juveniles inside the vehicle ran, but were quickly arrested. Glendora officers chased the suspects after they allegedly burglarized Kohl’s, 1225 S. Lone Hill Ave. Officers were called to the store at 6:22 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The suspects ditched their ride and fled on foot near East Gladstone Street and Damien Avenue, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. Two female suspects were caught and taken into custody while out on a sidewalk in a neighborhood, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. The male suspect was found hiding in a residential garage in the 500 block of Lesmar Drive. Victor Hugo Benitez, was arrested at 2:53 a.m. He is booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer with wonton disregard for public safety, burglary, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime, false imprisonment, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, intimidating or tampering with a witness, being a felon in possession of a firearm, robbery and a warrant from another police department. He is being held in lieu of $450,000 bail. Erica Elisabeth Mireles, 29, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. She was booked on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, and on two warrants from another police department. She is being held in lieu of $350,000 bail. Anissa Nicole Virgen, 19, was arrested at 8:59 p.m. She was booked on suspicion of burglary, identity theft, grand theft, check fraud, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools and on a warrant from another police department. She is being held in lieu of $275,000 bail. All three suspects are scheduled to appear in the West Covina courthouse Wednesday, May 17. Assisting with the search was the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station, Pomona Police Department, La Verne Police Department and a Pasadena Police helicopter. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspected DUI driver is accused of fleeing police on surface streets and freeways as far as Burbank and back east through Pasadena where the suspect crashed Saturday.
The suspect fled, with a passenger, when officers attempted a traffic stop on a speeding driver in the 1000 block of West Arrow Highway around 2:42 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The pursuit entered the west 210 freeway, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The driver exited the west 134 freeway onto South Buena Vista Street in Burbank and headed back east on the freeways. A set of spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol disabled the vehicle, which hit the center divider and stopped on the east 210 freeway west of Sierra Madre in Pasadena, Celello told SGV CityWatch. A female passenger exited and was detained. She was hospitalized and will not face charges, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male driver initially refused to exit the vehicle, so a Monrovia Police Department SWAT vehicle was called to help in detaining the male who eventually surrendered, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male was cited, released in the field and was hospitalized. He is facing charges including evading officers and driving under the influence, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A man and woman made a paltry attempt at evading police, but were ultimately taken into custody after a pursuit from Glendora to Irwindale February 17.
During the pursuit, a passenger tossed a handgun from the vehicle on the westbound 210 freeway just before the 605 freeway interchange. Officers ultimately recovered the gun, as well as narcotics and instruments described as burglary tools, according to the Glendora Police Department. The department’s Community Impact Team and detectives were conducting enforcement patrols in areas saturated by community complaints of drug sales occurring. A traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle whose driver reportedly committed several vehicle code violations, but the driver refused to stop, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Arrested were Julia Victoria Barbosa, 24, and Joseph Jesse Marquez, 21. Barbosa was booked on suspicion of evading an officer with wonton disregard for public safety, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, possessing burglary tools and a probation violation, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez was booked on suspicion of possessing counterfeit items, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez posted $50,000 bail and was released February 19. Barbosa is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. She has pending future court date from a previous crime. Officers responded to a report of a home burglary in progress in the 100 block of North Catherine Park Drive just before 3 p.m. Witnesses were able to provide a suspect vehicle description. Officers found the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver, according to Lt. Michael Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The driver failed to stop and attempted to elude officers. The driver reportedly went through a red light at Glendora Avenue and Route 66 where the suspect broadsided an SUV, which turned over. Two other vehicles were struck during the crash, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. The two male suspects were able to escape on foot and left their female compatriot behind. With the help of a Pasadena Police helicopter and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station, the two suspects were taken into custody in a rear yard in the 600 block of South Minnesota Avenue, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. A driver in one of the vehicles struck was hospitalized. Henderson wasn’t sure if any property was successfully taken from the home. Booking information for the suspects is still unavailable. Tamia Lanae Jenkins, 23, and Melinda Marie Lewis, 29, are accused of organized retail theft, among other charges. Police were called to Kohl’s, 1225 S. Lone Hill Ave., to investigate around 7:45 p.m., according to Sgt. Tim Crawford of the Glendora Police Department. Officers located two suspects who refused to stop for them and tried to evade the officers through the Glendora Marketplace parking lot until the chase ended behind Best Buy, 1307 E. Gladstone St. Crawford did not immediately know what items were taken from Kohl’s, but among the charges included evading police with Wanton Disregard for safety, grand theft, organized retail theft with intent to sell/exchange/return, obstructing or resisting a peace officer, providing false identification to a peace officer, possession of burglary tools, driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to Glendora Police booking records. Lewis was additionally booked for a felony warrant and misdemeanor warrant, according to Glendora Police booking records. Lewis is being held in lieu of $145,000 bail at the Glendora jail. Jenkins was issued a citation and released. Lewis was scheduled for an appearance in the West Covina Courthouse April 29. The driver crashed at the end of the vehicle pursuit, leaving his female passenger behind near the 210 freeway and Sunflower Avenue. The suspect reportedly fled into a home occupied by a resident, according to Lt. Tony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. Covina patrol officers attempted to stop the driver of a 1990s Honda Civic at Barranca Avenue and Covina Boulevard around 11:16 a.m. March 23. The Civic was reported stolen Tuesday in Whittier, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The driver surrendered and was taken into custody around 11:41 a.m. The passenger was also arrested, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Both suspects are facing grand theft auto charges. The driver will additionally face felony evading and burglary charges, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The suspects’ names are not yet available as officers are still confirming their identification. David Rivas, 34, allegedly fled from officers when they tried to stop him March 11. Rivas ran briefly from officers who eventually chased him down and arrested him. A handgun was located, according to the Glendora Police Department. Rivas was arrested just after midnight at Gladstone Street and Citrus Avenue. “A handgun was also located near where Rivas was arrested, and it was determined Rivas tried to discard it,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Rivas was booked on suspicion of the unlawful taking of a vehicle, receiving known stolen property, evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, hit and run, resisting a peace officer, being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, being a gang member while carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, altering/forging/falsifying registration and for a felony warrant. Rivas is being held in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse March 15. The driver and two juveniles were accused of committing grand theft at Ulta Beauty, 1229 S. Lone Hill Ave., and at Chili’s, 1371 E. Gladstone St. Police were called at 6:51 p.m., according to Sgt. Shelly Gold of the Glendora Police Department. Both businesses are located in the Glendora Marketplace. Glendora officers on patrol were close by the Marketplace and were able to intercept the driver who refused to comply with a traffic stop and took off. Police decided to end the pursuit due to the driver’s reckless nature, Gold told SGV CityWatch. The driver crashed into as many as four other vehicles at Gladstone Street and Sunflower Avenue around 6:55 p.m., according to a passerby who reached out to SGV CityWatch. Taylor Jorie Diaz, 18, was booked on suspicion of grand theft of money, labor, or property and reckless evading, according to Glendora Police booking records.
