The suspect fled, with a passenger, when officers attempted a traffic stop on a speeding driver in the 1000 block of West Arrow Highway around 2:42 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The pursuit entered the west 210 freeway, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The driver exited the west 134 freeway onto South Buena Vista Street in Burbank and headed back east on the freeways. A set of spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol disabled the vehicle, which hit the center divider and stopped on the east 210 freeway west of Sierra Madre in Pasadena, Celello told SGV CityWatch. A female passenger exited and was detained. She was hospitalized and will not face charges, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male driver initially refused to exit the vehicle, so a Monrovia Police Department SWAT vehicle was called to help in detaining the male who eventually surrendered, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male was cited, released in the field and was hospitalized. He is facing charges including evading officers and driving under the influence, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Baldemar Sandoval was an LAPD officer with the agency’s Central Division, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. “With great sadness I share that earlier this morning a police officer on his way home from work was involved in a traffic collision on the 210 freeway,” according to LAPD Chief Michel Moore. “I send my deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and friends as we mourn this tragedy.” First responders were sent to the crash just after 2:30 a.m. on the east 210 freeway west of Grand Avenue. The big rig was stopped in the middle lanes of traffic. A black sedan was seen twisted around the tractor trailer. Why the crash happened is under investigation. Wanda Lewis, 52, was arrested at 5:16 p.m. She was booked at 6:26 p.m. and later released on a citation at 8:30 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Lewis was the only occupant of the SUV that smashed into a garage in the 2400 of Curtis Court December 28, according to Sgt. Josh Price of the Glendora Police Department. Lewis was able to free herself from the twisted wreck before the gas line ignited, Price told SGV CityWatch. The crash and fire heavily damaged a garage, burning property inside and burning the crashed SUV. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, other firefighters worked to pull the SUV off the gas line that fed the flames that burned the garage and crashed SUV. Court date information for Lewis was not readily available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Two men and one woman are facing residential burglary charges after fleeing from officers and crashing during their escape Wednesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a report of a home burglary in progress in the 100 block of North Catherine Park Drive just before 3 p.m. Witnesses were able to provide a suspect vehicle description. Officers found the vehicle and attempted to stop the driver, according to Lt. Michael Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. The driver failed to stop and attempted to elude officers. The driver reportedly went through a red light at Glendora Avenue and Route 66 where the suspect broadsided an SUV, which turned over. Two other vehicles were struck during the crash, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. The two male suspects were able to escape on foot and left their female compatriot behind. With the help of a Pasadena Police helicopter and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station, the two suspects were taken into custody in a rear yard in the 600 block of South Minnesota Avenue, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. A driver in one of the vehicles struck was hospitalized. Henderson wasn’t sure if any property was successfully taken from the home. Booking information for the suspects is still unavailable. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – Regional traffic collision investigators are determining what led to a crash between a motorcycle and SUV that killed a Claremont man October 4. Luke Pruitt, a 19-year-old Claremont resident, was the motorcyclist who died at the crash scene at Grand Avenue and Mauna Loa Avenue, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Pruitt, a Claremont High School graduate, is listed as a defensive lineman with the Citrus College football team and was playing in his sophomore year with the community college. Multiple 9-1-1 calls were made about the injury crash, which occurred around 11:23 a.m. Paramedics performed life-saving measures on Pruitt, according to Sgt. Michael Henderson of the Glendora Police Department. Pruitt was in his second season playing with the Owls and one of the Owls' team captains, According to a statement from the Citrus College Athletics program. "Luke was a defining presence for our program," according to Citrus College Head Football Coach Brandon Hayashi in a written statement. "He was a leader on and off the field, always greeting everyone with a big smile. We are devastated by this loss." Traffic collision investigators from the La Verne and Azusa Police departments assisted Glendora detectives with the investigation, Henderson told SGV CityWatch. The collision was dispatched to first responders around 11:08 p.m. at Route 66 and Compromise Line Road July 6. The driver was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in stable condition, according to Sgt. Matt Fenner of the Glendora Police Department. Fenner did not immediately know if alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a role in the crash. The driver crashed at the end of the vehicle pursuit, leaving his female passenger behind near the 210 freeway and Sunflower Avenue. The suspect reportedly fled into a home occupied by a resident, according to Lt. Tony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. Covina patrol officers attempted to stop the driver of a 1990s Honda Civic at Barranca Avenue and Covina Boulevard around 11:16 a.m. March 23. The Civic was reported stolen Tuesday in Whittier, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The driver surrendered and was taken into custody around 11:41 a.m. The passenger was also arrested, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Both suspects are facing grand theft auto charges. The driver will additionally face felony evading and burglary charges, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The suspects’ names are not yet available as officers are still confirming their identification. David Rivas, 34, allegedly fled from officers when they tried to stop him March 11. Rivas ran briefly from officers who eventually chased him down and arrested him. A handgun was located, according to the Glendora Police Department. Rivas was arrested just after midnight at Gladstone Street and Citrus Avenue. “A handgun was also located near where Rivas was arrested, and it was determined Rivas tried to discard it,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Rivas was booked on suspicion of the unlawful taking of a vehicle, receiving known stolen property, evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, hit and run, resisting a peace officer, being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, being a gang member while carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, altering/forging/falsifying registration and for a felony warrant. Rivas is being held in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse March 15. Officers accuse Eddie Jessie Valdez, 37, of evading police, causing an injury hit and run collision and grand theft auto, according to the Glendora Police Department. A patrol officer witnessed the driver of a stolen vehicle speeding in opposing lanes of traffic around 9:50 p.m. in the 700 block of West Route 66. The officer attempted to catch up with the driver, but the driver crashed into a parked vehicle at Glenwood Avenue and Route 66, according to the Glendora Police Department. “The suspect fled the stolen vehicle on foot and the officer gave chase. The suspect, identified as Eddie Valdez, was quickly apprehended and taken into custody without further incident,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. In addition to the charges listed above, Valdez was additionally charged with violating the terms of his Post Release Community Supervision. Valdez is being held without bail in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. |
