The rider was south on the 605 freeway just north of Lower Azusa Road when he crashed, according to Dispatcher Supervisor Jeremy Stafford of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The rider and motorcycle went over the embankment. The rider was located and taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital in unknown condition, Stafford said. The motorcycle flipped over the right shoulder embankment and landed in a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic logs. A police helicopter was summoned to the scene to look for additional ejected riders, but the victim transported was the only person on the motorcycle. A handful of SoCal Edison employees evacuated during the emergency response after a brown substance spilled out of a mailed envelope at an employee’s work station at 6010 N. Irwindale Ave. around 1:11 p.m. The employee opened the envelope as part of her duties at her work station. The employee notified her superiors who initiated emergency procedures, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. Edison evacuated 40 employees from the affected building, while 400 others remained in other buildings on the property and sheltered in place, Gatto said. “It was ultimately determined the substance was packing material fused inside the envelope that came loose when the envelope was opened,” Gatto said. Investigators do not believe a criminal activity or threat occurred. Irwindale Police also investigated the incident, along with Los Angeles County Fire Hazardous-Materials program and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Hazmat Detail. A 2010 Mercury Milan was northbound on the 605 freeway when, for reasons not disclosed, the car went off the freeway and landed near Rivergrade Road around 3:58 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The driver, an 18-year-old man from Highland, suffered only discomfort to a shoulder and also neck soreness, according to Rodrigo Jimenez, public information officer for the CHP Baldwin Park Office. A 23-year-old San Bernardino man suffered major injuries to his right hand and pain to his abs. A 20-year-old San Bernardino man suffered a head laceration and fractured spine, Jimenez said. Investigators do not believe alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash. Firefighters freed the driver after the sedan became trapped under the tractor trailer on the right shoulder of the eastbound 210 freeway at the Irwindale Avenue off ramp just before 5 a.m., the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department said. The semi and tractor trailer attached to it were both stationary on the right shoulder of the off ramp when the collision occurred, according to the CHP. A Sig Alert was briefly issued for 30 minutes, which affected the off ramp and No. 3 and 4 lanes at Irwindale Avenue. The roadway was clear as of 6:33 a.m. |
