The surveillance video documenting the window smash break-in at Baskin-Robbins, 1528 Foothill Blvd., was shared by the La Verne Police Department. A window smash break-in also happened at neighboring Don Baja. “Based on the circumstances it is likely they were committed by the same subjects. The subjects fled prior to officer arrival. Fortunately, no one from either business was injured,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Anyone with information on these two burglaries is urged to call La Verne Police Detective Flores at 909-596-1913. The suspects should be worried, because Baskin-Robbins always finds out. The suspect caught in this surveillance video still image March 16 frequents a CVS store as a “repeat offender,” taking merchandise without paying. Employees attempted to stop him, at which point he reached for his waistband and displayed what is believed to be a knife, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect fled the store and left on a black bicycle. He is described as Latino, stands 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighs 215 pounds, has a medium build, black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. An officer attempted to stop a suspicious driver in the area of Baseline Road and Esperanza Driver. The driver fled to the 210 freeway and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, forcing the officer to cancel the chase, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect was last seen exiting at San Dimas Avenue where a backpack was found and recovered, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Officers retrieved the property which turned out to be property stolen during a home burglary in Corona just prior to their visit to La Verne. The property was returned to the victim, who advised a firearm was also stolen,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Officers returned to where the backpack was found and located the loaded gun. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – Three burglary suspects accused of attempting to cut their way into a business Tuesday are also heavily suspected in burglarizing a second business the same day, police said. Police detained the three suspects who were in the middle of cutting their way into a business in the 1100 block of Foothill Boulevard the morning of September 29. Not too long after that, a business in the 700 block of Arrow Highway was also found burglarized, according to the La Verne Police Department.
“Video surveillance from the Arrow Hwy location confirmed that the same suspects were responsible for both burglaries,” the La Verne Police Department said. Arrested were Pomona residents Serenity Dupree, 21, and Alexis Frenes, 26. La Verne man Oscar Flores, 27, was also arrested. The trio were booked on suspicion of burglary, given citations and released. The burglary occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 6900 block of Wheeler Avenue. Two of the suspects were seen removing property. Police arrived and witnessed three men leaving the home. One of the suspects fled officers. Two were detained at gunpoint, according to the La Verne Police Department. A suspect in a waiting white 4-door sedan fled the scene southbound on Wheeler, setting off a police pursuit which was soon cancelled due to excessive speeds, La Verne Police said. A West Covina police canine assisted along with a Los Angeles county sheriffs helicopter to search for the suspect who fled on foot from the home. Unfortunately, the suspect was not located. Jaylen Lacy, 19, from Los Angeles, was booked on suspicion of burglary. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail. The second suspect, a 17-year-old, was also booked on suspicion of burglary and was held at Central Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles. All the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim, La Verne Police said. The crime occurred Thursday, August 15 at Sprouts, 1375 Foothill Blvd., at 2 p.m. The two women pictured above distracted the shopper while the pictured male suspect opened the shopper’s purse to take the wallet, according to the La Verne Police Department. The shopper is an older woman and the three suspects are possibly associated with other crimes targeting other older victims, La Verne Police said.

The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. The suspect was seen on surveillance footage closely following the victim until he could take her wallet from her shopping cart, La Verne Police said. The stolen credit/access card was then used at multiple La Verne businesses.
The suspect is a Black man in his 40s or 50s. He wore a green shirt and a green hat which featured a gold silhouette of a bear. Officers responded to Fairplex Liquor, 1922 Fairplex Dr., around 5 a.m. to a burglary alarm call and found the front glass door smashed, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspects stole approximately $1,500 in merchandise, La Verne Police said. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call La Verne Police Detective A. Julian at 909-596-1913. One of the suspects, Demarcus Johnson, was jailed after police arrived to the scene December 26 and a set a containment search. Two remaining suspects, Angel Baltazar and Angel Sandoval, escaped capture that day, but were located through detective work, La Verne Police said. Police responding to two burglary calls found rear glass sliding doors smashed and jewelry taken, La Verne Police said in a written statement. Police responded to a third home when the homeowner interrupted the crime in progress and called 9-1-1. Johnson was found during a search and arrested. Unsuccessful attempts were made to speak with a La Verne Police supervisor to learn the times and locations for each burglary. “La Verne Detectives immediately set about identifying and locating them,” La Verne Police said. “Through witness testimony and external surveillance video, Detectives were quickly able to identify the suspects, who were also believed to be Rialto residents.” With the help of the Rialto Police Department, search warrants were served at the homes of Baltazar and Sandoval December 29. Both men were arrested and evidence taken in the burglary was seized, La Verne Police said. The suspect, 42-year-old Ricardo Valencia of Bellflower, was arrested near Foothill Boulevard and Bixby Drive, caught in the act of burglarizing another vehicle, La Verne Police said.
Valencia was booked on suspicion of vehicle burglary, possession of burglary tools and vehicle tampering.
Valencia has already made an initial court appearance August 23. |
