An officer attempted to stop a suspicious driver in the area of Baseline Road and Esperanza Driver. The driver fled to the 210 freeway and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, forcing the officer to cancel the chase, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect was last seen exiting at San Dimas Avenue where a backpack was found and recovered, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Officers retrieved the property which turned out to be property stolen during a home burglary in Corona just prior to their visit to La Verne. The property was returned to the victim, who advised a firearm was also stolen,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Officers returned to where the backpack was found and located the loaded gun. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - A helicopter search is underway for any suspicious activity in the Unincorporated La Verne foothills after deputies believe a volley of gunfire rang out in the darkness Thursday night.
The deputies were likely en route to a call when they reported hearing around 3 to 4 shots that they believe were aimed in their direction in the 6300 block of Stephens Ranch Road in the La Verne foothills, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The deputies took refuge behind the patrol vehicle and the estimate the gunfire was heard about 50 yards from their location. Fellow deputies arrived and with the assistance of a helicopter they devise an evacuation plan to have the initial deputies retreat to safety. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Two men used a stolen ATM card to withdraw $1,600 in cash throughout September, La Verne Police revealed Thursday.
The two men were caught on surveillance camera withdrawing funds from the victim’s account in eight transactions between September 5 and September 12 -- five at a San Dimas Bank of America and three at a Glendora Bank of America, La Verne Police said. Then men are unknown to the victim. The suspects were captured on camera driving to each location in a newer grey Infiniti Q50 4dr with paper plates from Keys Cars in Van Nuys. LA VERNE - A large bear is sitting comfortably in a tree while La Verne Police officers carefully watch the creature Thursday morning.
The creature was first spotted roaming around a home in the 700 block of Via Los Santos around 11:15 p.m. in San Dimas and even walked about the roof of the home, the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station said. San Dimas deputies watched the bear for 90 minutes as it walked around and entered La Verne city limits where La Verne Police took over the bear watch. The bear walked the grounds of Damien High School and even enjoyed the swimming pool before securing itself in a tree. |
