The robbery occurred around 5:30 p.m. at Chase Bank, 102 W. Foothill Blvd. The suspect entered the bank and left a demand note, taking an unknown amount of cash, according to Lt. Tom Loy of the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect fled the bank and employees locked the doors after he left, Loy said. A suspect description was not available. It is unclear what vehicle the suspect fled in after leaving the bank. The FBI is handling the investigation. The incident unfolded at 12:30 p.m. in the 900 block of West Duarte Road. The suspect met the victim in front of the victim’s home. After receiving the phone, the suspect refused to pay for it and fled the victim on foot. A chase ensued, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The victim caught the suspect and a both fought each other until the victim got the phone back, Monrovia Police said. The suspect fled before officers arrived. The investigation is ongoing. The victim, an employee of an unnamed store in the 100 block of South Myrtle Avenue, had the jewelry, a reported $50,000 value, taken from the backpack she decided to take to work with her, Monrovia Police said. The burglary was reported around 6:47 p.m., but it was either unknown or undisclosed when the jewelry was taken. Monrovia Firefighters were called to search for the missing hiker at 10 p.m. May 30. Firefighters searched throughout the night with the assistance of the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, Monrovia Fire Department said. Into the following morning, the search continued. The Hillside Wilderness Preserve was closed during the search. Around 10:30 a.m., searchers found the hiker unharmed, Monrovia Fire Department said. Richard Gebhardt left his home at 120 S. Myrtle Ave. overnight. It is unknown what he wore when he left, but he is known to wear button -up shirts and black pants, Monrovia Police said. Gebhardt is 5 feet 11 inches tall, 163 pounds, has brown hair, blue eyes and frequents the Monrovia Vons and Duarte Walmart.
