One skimmer was found at Bank of America, 230 S. Myrtle Ave., the second was found at 7-Eleven, 400 W. Foothill Blvd. Both skimmers were taped or glued to each device and featured a microSD chip, a small camera pointed at the keypad and battery pack, according to the Monrovia Police Department. At Bank of America, a witness saw two suspects, described as white or Middle Eastern men, remove two devices, one of which had been left behind. The suspects entered a white Honda CRV and fled southbound on Myrtle Avenue and out of sight, according to the Monrovia Police department. Anyone who may have used either of the above-mentioned ATMs around October 11 should check for any suspicious activity on their bank accounts. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA – Three suspects stole a gargantuan amount of cigarettes from a business before the products could even be loaded into the store, police said.
The theft took place around 10:52 a.m. in the 1600 block of South Myrtle Avenue March 24. The victim drove to the business with the cigarettes to replenish his stock. Three suspects then arrived in a vehicle, according to the Monrovia Police Department. “Within a few seconds a vehicle drives up and three males exit and unload $5,000 worth of cigarettes from the victim's vehicle. This investigation is continuing,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. No suspect description was publicly provided. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - Officers were called May 10 to investigate a possible fraud that occurred after a restaurant manager took revenue from the establishment to pay off an alleged IRS tax problem, Monrovia Police said.
Employees of the unnamed restaurant in the 600 block of West Huntington Drive called the general manager and said the new restaurant manager “took all the money from the store and left for a short time, but then returned,” according to the Monrovia Police Department. Police responded to the restaurant at 10:14 p.m. Officers detained the store manager who said a caller claimed the restaurant owed taxes. The manager was asked to purchase gift cards from CVS and provide the card numbers to the caller, Monrovia Police said. “The manager went to CVS, purchased the gift cards, and provided the caller with the card numbers. Officers were able to confirm the manager's story,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. The amount of money used to purchase the cards was not disclosed. It is unclear if any arrests have been made. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - An officer was scraped up after being dragged about five feet by the driver of a stolen vehicle early Sunday. The incident occurred at West Chestnut Avenue and Monterey Avenue just after 1 a.m. A driver seated in a parked car was approached by a patrolling officer. The suspect began to put the car in gear when the officer was notified over the radio that the car was stolen, according to Sgt. Yolanda Juarez of the Monrovia Police Department. “As the officer was getting the driver out of the vehicle, the driver sped off on Chestnut. The officer who was holding on to the suspect’s upper body was dragged approximately five feet prior to the officer letting go,” Juarez told SGV CityWatch. The stolen rental car from Palm Springs was seen eastbound and out of view. The injured officer was treated at the Monrovia Police Department by Monrovia firefighters, Juarez said.
The driver is a Hispanic man in his late 20s with brown hair, brown eyes, has a thin build, a mustache and tattoos on his left wrist. He wore a dark-colored hat and varsity-style jacket. The front passenger is a Hispanic woman in her late 20s with blonde hair. Anyone with suspect information can call the Monrovia Police watch commander at 626-256-8000. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - A grand theft auto suspect hid a dunk in a pool Tuesday in an attempt to hide form Monrovia officers who gave chase. The suspect fled from a traffic stop at California Avenue and Duarte Road around 7:30 p.m. July 2. Police pursued a grey Toyota Tacoma which callers reported stolen during the chase, Monrovia Police said.
The grand theft auto occurred a few blocks from the start of the pursuit. The Tacoma crashed at Redell Avenue and Shrode Avenue in unincorporated Monrovia. The suspect fled on foot and hid in a nearby neighborhood, Monrovia Police said. A Pasadena Police helicopter, El Monte Police, Irwindale Police and Sheriff’s deputies helped Monrovia officers locate the man in a residential pool. He was arrested without further incident, Monrovia Police said. The teen’s age was not immediately known. Monrovia Police were informed of the pursuit suspect driving in their city after Arcadia Police ended the chase due to unsafe speeds, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Arcadia Police initiated a traffic stop of the teen in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive in Arcadia at 7:55 p.m. after learning the vehicle was stolen. The teen initially pull dover, but then sped away, according to Sgt. John Bonomo of the Arcadia Police Department. Monrovia Police took the boy into custody and are handling the collision investigation. |
