Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - A Ford SUV rolled over and landed back on its wheels on the eastbound 60 freeway at Paramount Boulevard Sunday.
The collision occurred in the No. 3 and 4 lanes of the 60 freeway at Paramount Avenue just before 2 p.m. Up to six patients were inside the SUV when it rolled over. A 2-month-old child was also in the SUV, according to the Montebello Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol. Passing motorists have stopped on the freeway to help the occupants out of the SUV, the CHP said. The CHP preliminarily learned the SUV was possibly driving at a high rate of speed and was cut off by a Kia. The SUV’s driver over-corrected and rolled the vehicle. The Kia may have taken off from the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - Police pursued a high-speed, blood-stained vehicle through surface streets into County/USC Medical Center Saturday morning, later realizing the driver was transporting someone who was shot.
The shooting took place in the parking lot of Mariscos El Bravo, 1125 Washington Blvd., sometime after 1 a.m. A woman transported the shooting victim from the restaurant to County/USC Medical Center where the victim is being treated, according to Lt. Boris Zeissig of the Montebello Police Department. The relationship between the victim and the driver is not immediately known. Detectives are continuing to search for witnesses to the shooting, as well as surveillance footage from nearby businesses, Zeissig said. While Zeissig did not have an update on the victim’s condition, he said hospital staff have not alerted Montebello Police if a death occurred. A Montebello officer on patrol attempted to pull over a vehicle he said had a large amount of blood on a passenger door near Beverly Boulevard and Margaret Avenue, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. The driver sped along surface streets, running red lights through East Los Angeles and Los Angeles, eventually being followed by East Los Angeles Deputies as well as Montebello Police. Once the driver stopped at the emergency room entrance to County/USC, officers realized the driver was transporting a shooting victim, Montebello Police said. A verbal argument at the Mariscos El Bravo may have led to the shooting. A suspect description was not immediately known. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - Police are planning a DUI/driver license checkpoint, set to begin Friday, August 17 at 7 p.m.
The checkpoint will be held in an undisclosed location and conclude at 3 a.m. Saturday, August 18. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests, according to Montebello Police. “The deterrent effect of High Visibility Enforcement using both DUI checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols has proven to lower the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug-impaired crashes,” Montebello Police said in a written statement. “Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized proactive DUI operations are conducted routinely.” Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Montebello Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
