Montebello Firefighters are assisting county resources in extinguishing the flames, which are burning in heavy brush and vegetation, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. There was no word if evacuations are being conducted. No further information is available. About 200 firefighters worked to contain the spread of the flames Saturday, which ignited just before 11:30 a.m. near Lincoln Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard. Arson investigators were summoned to the scene to determine if the fire was suspicious. The fire briefly jumped Rosemead Boulevard Saturday and began small spot fires nearby. Montebello Firefighters were aided by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Monrovia and Pasadena fire departments helped battle the fire. The fire is burning near Lincoln Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard. Montebello Police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are assisting with blocking road traffic in the area, according to Los Angeles County Fire radio traffic. San Gabriel Boulevard between Lincoln Avenue & Rosemead Boulevard has been shut down, as well as southbound lanes of Rosemead north of San Gabriel Boulevard. The fire is about 40 feet by 40 feet in size near Lincoln Avenue and San Gabriel Boulevard. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:25 a.m. Montebello firefighters were dispatched initially, believing it was in their jurisdiction, but the fire is possibly in Los Angeles County’s area, according to Montebello Fire radio traffic. Los Angeles County Fire Department has been dispatched and is en route to the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Melanie Flores. County units have a full brush fire response en route. |
