First responders were sent into a gunshot investigation in the 1600 block of Neil Armstrong Street just before midnight Thursday, December 28. A Latino man was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “An individual at the scene claimed responsibility for the shooting. He is currently being questioned,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. It is not publicly clearer if investigators have determined a motive for the shooting. First responders located the man who was taken to a hospital where he died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Montebello Police officers were dispatched to the area at 2 p.m. Tejada was detained and transported through the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Pico Rivera station. “A male Hispanic adult was taken into custody at the location without incident. There were no other people inside the location. The suspect was arrested and booked on unrelated charges,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station in a written statement. ”Pending the outcome of our investigation, we will then know what additional charges will be added. For this brief, his identity will not be released nor will the circumstances around which Annahi came into contact with,” according to Cpt. Jodi Hutak of the Sheriff’s Pico Rivera Station. Tejada originally left her home after an argument with her mother over a cell phone. Montebello officers were called to investigate a gunshot victim in the 8100 block of Slauson Avenue around 3:12 p.m. August 22. The victim, only described as a Hispanic man, was found wounded between two motorhomes. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The murder weapon remains outstanding. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 9:58 a.m.: Officers responded to a business in the 400 block of West Washington Boulevard at 3:48 a.m. to investigate a burglary alarm call. On arriving on scene, officers saw a man inside of the business. He attempted to flee the business through the rear door but retreated back inside to escape officers positions behind the location, according to the Montebello Police Department.
“As Officers entered the building a shotgun was recovered and Officers heard the subject in the crawl space between the ceiling and roof of the store,” according to the Montebello Police Department in a written statement. “It is unknown if the subject is armed with another weapon and the subject has refused to cooperate with police orders to exit.” MONTEBELLO - All east and west lanes of West Washington Boulevard between Bluff Road and Carob Way are closed while authorities try to get a barricaded man to surrender. Crisis negotiators and the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau are working on communicating with the man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The Montebello Police Department is asking everyone to avoid the area. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - Police announced recently the arrest of a man and woman involved in a armed robbery that left a clerk with significant injuries. Surveillance footage taken of the suspect vehicle the day prior to the robbery and shooting helped Sheriff’s deputies identify suspect Kimberly Ramirez. Jesus Mendez was later identified and arrested, the Montebello Police Department said. Ramirez, 27, was arrested June 6 and is being held in lieu of $3.1 million bail. Mendez, 24, was arrested September 25 and held in lieu of $1.58 million, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The robbery unfolded January 18 at Garfield Liquor, 2433 W. Whittier Blvd., when two masked suspects entered and stole a cash register. An employee struggled with at least one suspect. The employee was shot by one suspect and sustained significant injuries, but survived. Both suspects escaped, Montebello Police said. The suspects conducted surveillance on the convenience store a day before the robbery. Images from the video were shared with countless law enforcement agencies in SoCal, leading to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies to detain Ramirez for Montebello officers.
When deputies detained Ramirez, she was driving the same suspect vehicle, Montebello Police said. “[Ramirez] admitted her role to multiple armed robberies that occurred in Montebello, Bell, East Los Angeles and South Los Angeles,” Montebello Police said. Further investigation conducted with the help of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division led to Mendez’s arrest, Montebello Police said. Mendez, an East Los Angeles gang member, is believed to be present at multiple other robberies. During a search warrant at Mendez’s home, a firearm was recovered, Montebello Police said. Ramirez and Mendez are scheduled for an appearance in Los Angeles Municipal Court October 31. Eddie Herrera was named by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. He is listed as a 49-year-old transient. Herrera was confronted by officers near 2nd Street and Victoria Avenue around 1:30 p.m. May 9 who were looking for suspects possibly smoking marijuana and drinking. The first Montebello officer on scene saw a man carrying a weapon. As backup was called, the officer-involved shooting occurred, Montebello Police said.

When they arrived, they encountered the suspect, a male Hispanic adult, 49 years old holding a shot gun,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “It appears at this time, that the suspect discharged the shotgun at least one time, and the Officers returned fire striking the suspect at least one time in the upper torso.” No officers were injured. It is unclear if the suspect shot is one of the suspects sought for public intoxication. Victoria will be blocked from 1st Street to 3rd Avenue. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will be handling the investigation. Police arrived to the scene in the 1300 block of South Greenwood Avenue around 7:50 p.m. and found the victim. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are investigating the shooting.
