First responders were dispatched at 1:36 a.m. and found the victim down in the middle of northbound lanes of Atlantic Boulevard. The victim appeared to have been struck by a vehicle, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. It is unclear if a possible suspect vehicle, or driver, has been identified. Alan Cuong Van Huynh, a 55-year-old South El Monte man, was identified and arrested February 1. He was booked in Monterey Park on suspicion of felony hit and run, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. Huynh is accused of fleeing after striking and wounding a pedestrian January 28 at Corporate Center Drive and Davidson Drive around 2:32 p.m. Huynh was turning left onto Davidson Drive from southbound Corporate Center Drive. Huynh allegedly fled the scene after the crash, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. The pedestrian is still hospitalized. Huynh is being held in lieu of $50,000 ahead of a scheduled appearance in Alhambra Superior Court Thursday, February 3. The pedestrian is being treated for what was described as life-threatening injuries. She was hit by the van that was turning left from southbound Corporate Center Drive onto Davidson Drive just after 2:30 p.m., according to the Monterey Park Police Department. The cargo van was caught in nearby security camera as it fled the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK – One person died in a crash on the westbound 60 freeway at Markland Drive early Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:08 a.m. April 28. It is not yet clear how the crash occurred, but initially a passerby reported a blacked out vehicle stopped in the middle lanes and an occupant standing outside the vehicle at 2:09 a.m. it is unclear when the person was hit, within an hour, CHP officers were requesting the coroner and that all lanes be shut down, according to CHP traffic logs. The CHP was also told of a vehicle stalled in the HOV lane after possibly hitting the center divider at 2:09 a.m. A person initially believed to be the driver fled to the right shoulder. At 2:35 a.m. all westbound lanes were closed, but by 2:47 a.m. the No. 5 lane was opened. By 5:14 a.m., all lanes were reopened. The crash that occurred around 12:48 a.m. February 10 in the 1600 block of Corporate Center Drive also injured the female passenger of a reportedly stolen Honda CRV. The driver hit a tree after somehow losing control of the vehicle, according to law enforcement at the scene. LAPD officers attempted to stop the driver of the stolen CRV around 12:30 a.m., but he refused to yield. The driver died at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK – A Los Angeles teen was killed after crashing into an oncoming vehicle July 3, police said. The crash occurred around 6:38 p.m. at Crest Vista Drive and Windover Way. The teen, identified as 17-year-old Ernesto Manzano Jr., was riding downhill at high speed against traffic. He reportedly collided into a northbound vehicle, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. Manzano died at the scene. “The driver of the vehicle stopped after the collision and is cooperating with the investigation. Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a factor at this time,” according to the Monterey Park Police Department in a written statement.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - A driver and passenger received moderate injuries Sunday after the vehicle they were in rolled over. The crash occurred at Casuda Canyon Drive and Garvey Avenue around 1:16 a.m. Alhambra and Monterey Park Police both responded. Witnesses reported the vehicle rolled multiple times before resting on its roof. Officers arrived and found one person trapped in the vehicle. One person had climbed out and was walking around, according to the Alhambra Police Department.
“Officers found evidence at the scene leading them to believe that alcohol and nitrous oxide may have been involved,” Alhambra Police. Monterey Park Police are investigating the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - One person was killed, a second person injured in a two-vehicle crash on West Floral Drive near Collegian Avenue Sunday. The crash was reported around 2:54 p.m. February 9. One person died at the scene. An injured person had to be extricated from one of the vehicles and was hospitalized. Their condition is not publicly known. Monterey Park Police have not answered numerous calls seeking additional information. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Suspected catalytic converter thieves fled Monterey Park Police in two different vehicles, setting off a police pursuit and two crashes, with one suspect dying at the scene. Police attempted to contact two men opening vehicle doors parked at a closed business January 5 in the 700 block of Monterey Pass Road around 5:22 p.m. A gold Nissan fled the scene and rammed a patrol car to exit the property, Monterey Park Police said. The Nissan driver got away. Officers soon began pursuing a black Mercedes that also fled the scene, Monterey Park Police said. The Mercedes fled north on Monterey Pass Road, lost control, struck a curb and crashed. Both occupants in the Mercedes were hospitalized for their injuries. While detaining the two suspects, an overturned Nissan was discovered across the street after it hit a concrete wall. The driver was partially ejected and died at the scene, Monterey Park Police said.
The arrested suspects were identified as 25-year-old Huntington Park resident Diego Ramirez and 31-year-old Wendy Mireles of Pico Rivera. Ramirez and Mireles were both booked on suspicion of attempted grand theft. Ramirez was additionally booked on suspicion of felony evading, vandalism and trespassing. Both suspects are scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Superior Court Tuesday, January 7. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Police announced the arrest of a driver accused of fleeing the scene after hitting and killing a teen skateboarder November 18. Cristina Navarro, a 63-year-old Montebello resident, was arrested after her white minivan was located Nov. 22, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. 14-year-old Joshua Madrid was gravely wounded as he crossed Atlantic Boulevard at Newmark Avenue around 9:20 p.m. November 18. Investigators believe Madrid was outside a marked crosswalk and crossed against a red light when he was struck, Monterey Park police said.
Madrid was taken to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. Navarro was booked on suspicion of hit and run and vehicular manslaughter.
