The suspect approached a woman Tuesday, January 16, in the area of Dudley Street and Arroyo Avenue around 9:22 p.m. He inquired about dating her, but she rejected his advances, according to the Pomona Police Department. “When she rejected his advances, he escalated the situation by brandishing a knife and threatening her,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Police were called and they searched the area, but the suspect was already gone. Believing the suspect would return, officers stayed in the area and luckily enough, the suspect was found. “Upon attempting to approach him, the man engaged in a physical altercation with officers and resisted arrest. Despite his resistance, officers successfully apprehended him,” according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect was booked on suspicion of brandishing a weapon, making criminal threats, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and stalking. First responders arrived to the 1300 block of West Mission Boulevard around 9:22 p.m. and found the juvenile gunshot victim December 26. The juvenile was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics, according to the Pomona Police Department. Investigators from the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit are determining a motive. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect in the hours since the shooting. Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of North Reservoir Street around 4:15 a.m. March 20 by a woman who concerned for a friend’s wellbeing. One woman was able to escape through a window from the home and told police of her ordeal and that another woman had yet to be freed, according to the Pomona Police Department. Authorities setup a perimeter and evacuated nearby residents. It took four hours of talks with crisis negotiators, with family of the suspect assisting, until 29-year-old Ricardo Alvarado surrendered, according to the Pomona Police Department. No one was injured. Firearms were seized from the residence. Alvarado, a Pomona man, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment with violence, kidnapping and removing, damaging or destroying a wireless communication device to prevent someone from using it to seek help. The stabbing occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of West Mission Boulevard. Investigators have yet to reveal the circumstances behind the stabbing, but the suspect was caught on security camera inside of a local liquor store prior to the stabbing. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A suspect remains jailed Thursday, accused of forcing a 17-year-old girl to perform a sex act on him after he convinced her to accept a ride September 27.
Marquise McFadden, 29, was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count of forced oral copulation by force or violence. The girl was waiting at a bus stop near North White Avenue and Texas Avenue when a suspect drove up, according to the Pomona Police Department. “The suspect offered the victim a ride to school. The victim accepted and got into the car with the suspect. While driving, the suspect produced a firearm and threatened the victim, then sexually assaulted her. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and run to nearby community members who contacted the police,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. One day later, McFadden was identified as a suspect and a search was initiated. McFadden was seen driving the suspect vehicle September 29. Members of the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit stopped McFadden and found a firearm in his possession, according to the Pomona Police Department. McFadden posted $150,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court November 3, according to Los Angeles County booking records. José Quezada, 32, has been named the suspect in the attempted murder of the security officer. The beating took place September 13 at a Target shopping center, 701 Rio Rancho Rd. “Quezada used a metal object to strike the victim numerous times in the head,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Quezada is a known a transient and frequents the south side of Pomona and the city of Ontario. Police consider him to be armed and dangerous. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – Pomona Police and the California Highway Patrol got the drop on a sideshow event that ended with dozens of arrests, vehicle impounds and a driver allegedly ramming a CHP patrol vehicle. The sideshow event took place along Pomona Boulevard and the 71 freeway September 4. The CHP was asked to assist around 11:30 p.m. and as officers arrived, found a chaotic scene. “As CHP officers arrived on scene, they observed a large group of vehicles engaged in a sideshow and a large plume of tire smoke caused by numerous burnouts. The officers moved into position to prevent the vehicles and spectators from leaving. While attempting to flee, one of the participants intentionally rammed a CHP patrol vehicle,” according to the CHP in a written statement. No one was injured in the crash and both vehicles sustained minor damage. Officers made 27 arrests and suspects were booked on a variety of alleged crimes, including exhibition to vandalism. Two felony arrests were made for assault on a peace officer, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs. The majority of the arrests were for spectating and/or participating in an illegal street takeover. Officers impounded 19 vehicles, according to the CHP. The CHP utilizes a Street Racing Task Force to combat such takeover events. The task force is partially funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety. Jose Luis Hernandez, 42, allegedly refused to comply with the commands of officers who responded to Hamilton Boulevard and Second Street to calls of gunfire. After officers detained two men matching suspect descriptions, Hernandez became uncooperative. “The suspect armed himself with a pocket knife and threw it at a group of Officers, striking one of our Officers. Officers made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation but were unsuccessful. The suspect was struck with bean bag rounds and taken into custody,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Multiple shell casings were located along with four firearms, according to the Pomona Police Department. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $950,000 bail. The shooting occurred just after 12:30 p.m. in the 500 block of East Franklin Avenue, October 2. The suspect confronted the alleged victim on foot, revealed a handgun and attempted to rob him. The suspect was shot. He was eventually detained, treated for injuries and later hospitalized in stable condition, according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspect’s handgun was recovered. It is not yet publicly known what type of vehicle the suspect tried to take from the alleged victim, nor is it publicly clear how the alleged victim came to be armed in the first place. Police declined to name the suspect, but he is facing being booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted carjacking, carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and carrying an unregistered firearm. Jessica Grajeda, 35, was arrested after the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit investigated the boy’s death and determined that he was subject to repeated abuse and that biological father George Luis Almaraz, 32, did nothing to stop her, Pomona Police said. Police responded to a home in the 600 block of Del Rosa Place just after Noon June 1 to investigate a call of “unknown trouble “ with someone needing CPR. The teen was found not breathing by LA County firefighters and officers, Pomona Police said. The teen later died at a hospital. “The investigation revealed that the victim had been assaulted by his step-mother immediately prior to needing medical assistance,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Five other juveniles ranging in age from 1 to 13 years old were at the home and later placed into protective custody. Detectives do not believe they suffered physical abuse, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder and multiple counts of child abuse against Grajeda. One count of felony child abuse was filed against Almaraz. Both remain in custody, Pomona Police said. Grajeda is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. |
