Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - A Monterey Park man was official charged May 7 with one count of murder in the stabbing death of his mother. 34-year-old Alexander Joshua Escobar is accused of stabbing to death 65-year-old Josephine Reyes, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The murder count includes an allegation of using a knife, according to Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat. Escobar is accused of stabbing his mother multiple times in the home they shared in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue May 5.
Escobar allegedly called police and admitted to dealing the fatal blows. Monterey Park Police officers found the suspect with his hands up. He was detained without incident, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “When officers entered the residence, they found a female Hispanic in her 60’s with multiple stab wounds to the upper torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene,” Sheriff’s investigators said. Two knives were recovered at the scene. Bail is set at more than $2 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison, the county DA said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Police continue to search for the suspect who stabbed two people -- both ended up in the San Gabriel Valley Sunday night. The victims were apparently stabbed in Boyle Heights at Soto Street and Wabash Avenue around 8:15 p.m. April 7 by a Hispanic man. Both victims are in stable condition, according to Sal Ramirez, Los Angeles Police Department public information officer. The victims both ended up near Hellman Avenue and New Avenue on the Rosemead/Monterey Park border where they called 9-1-1 around 9:16 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple Station.
It is unclear how the victims ended up in the San Gabriel Valley. Anyone with information on the stabbing is urged to call the LAPD Hollenbeck Community Police Station at 323-342-4100. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Police arrested a man and woman from La Mirada March 8, accused of a series of purse robberies around the Monterey Park area. David Nicolas Davido, 30, and Erica Tiger Adams, 29 were both arrested and booked on suspicion of robbery. The du allegedly targeted Asian women in shopping plazas frequented by the Asian community, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. The San Gabriel Police Department partnered with neighboring departments and the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Taskforce worked on identifying suspects who were committing purse snatch robberies in San Gabriel and around the area.
Detectives determined Davido and Adams were suspects in the crimes, located the duo and arrested them. Davido is being held in lieu of $310,000. Adams is being held in lieu of $280,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Saieed Stecoo Ivey was gunned down outside his apartment complex in the 800 block of El Repetto Drive in Monterey Park June 9, 2016. Homicide detectives, as well as Ivey’s family and friends, are asking for public assistance in finding those responsible. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors has approved a $10,000 reward, in conjunction with a $10,000 reward from Ivey’s family and friends, for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. An unknown suspect pulled the trigger around 4:30 a.m. that night. Ivey celebrated his birthday just four and a half hours prior to the shooting, detectives said. Ivey was a basketball player at East Los Angeles Community College. A Chicago transplant, Ivey sought a better life away from the violence of his hometown. Ivey’s mother, Chareda Carter, flew from Chicago to make a public plea in helping solve her son’s murder. “He did not deserve this. If anyone can provide any information, please do not hesitate to call,” Carter said. “it’s tough to lose anyone in your life, especially a son this age and who was aspiring to be successful.” Anyone with information on Ivey’s killer or killers is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – A man robbed two Cathay banks in the San Gabriel Valley, hitting a Monterey Park bank as recently as Tuesday. The suspect, dubbed the "Last Minute Bandit" due to him arriving late in the day, also cased a third Cathay Bank Friday, March 23 in Rowland Heights, but the suspect ultimately left, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The suspect, clad in a brown hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve collared shirt or light jacket, issued a demand note for cash at Cathay Bank, 17851 Colima Road in Industry. The suspect entered the bank just before 4:40 p.m., according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Industry Sheriff’s Station. The suspect fled with about $2,000, Reynaga said. The suspect would issue a demand note and claim to have a weapon on him. he would even make a motion to indicate he was armed, but no weapon was seen, Eimiller said.
Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Jurors deliberated for two days before finding a former Monterey Park police officer guilty of forcing women to expose themselves and touching them during traffic stops.
Israel Sanchez was found guilty of five counts of sexual battery by restraint, five counts of assault under color of authority, three counts of false imprisonment by violence and one count of soliciting a bribe, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Sanchez could face a maximum of 11 years in state prison if convicted as charged. He must also register as a lifetime sex offender. From July to August of 2014, Sanchez forced each female victim to expose herself during traffic stops while Sanchez was on duty. “On two occasions, he touched the women after ordering them to expose themselves. The victims were between 19 and 28 years old,” said Prosecutor Hyunah Suh. Sanchez is scheduled to be sentenced April 24 in Department 124 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. |
