Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SANTA FE SPRINGS - A man and woman were found and arrested in Arcadia April 3 after detectives identified them as suspects in a fatal hit and run crash.
Priscilla Michelle Cornejo, 39, and Johnathon David Cornejo, 33, were booked on suspicion of murder and other charges in the March 22 crash. Priscilla is accused of causing a head-on crash while driving in opposing lanes of the 60 freeway at Crossroads Parkway, killing an 11-year-old girl and severely wounding the girl’s father, according to the California Highway Patrol. Priscilla was driving a black Hyundai Sonata west on the 60 freeway east of the 605 freeway around 4:06 a.m. March 22, her husband following in a black Ford Taurus. Priscilla clipped a tractor trailer, causing it and the semi it was hauling to jackknife. Her Sonata flipped around, according to the CHP. Priscilla allegedly fled the scene by going eastbound in westbound lanes without headlights on. Johnathon U-turned and began following his wife Priscilla who crashed head on into a gray Toyota Corolla occupied by the 11-year-old girl who was killed at the scene. “After the collision, Priscilla Cornejo, abandoned the Hyundai and entered the Ford, being driven by her husband, and fled the scene westbound on State Route 60,” according to the CHP in a written statement. CHP Santa Fe Springs Area investigators took the husband and wife into custody with the help of the CHP Southern Division Warrant Service Team. Priscilla was charged murder, felony hit and run, two counts of driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, filing a false auto theft report and misdemeanor hit and run, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Johnathon was charged with murder and being an accessory after the fact, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The husband and wife are being held in lieu $2 million bail and appeared in the Pomona Courthouse April 5. Both are scheduled back in court April 18. Vehicle, pedestrian, equestrian and all other recreational activity is off limits. The Gulch Fire has burned 113 acres and is 78 percent contained as of Thursday night. There are 98 firefighters remaining on scene, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Highway 39 remains closed from the San Gabriel River Bridge to Crystal Lake Road. East Fork Road remains closed from Highway 39 to Glendora Mountain Road, the latter is closed from the border of Glendora to East Fork Road. Glendora Ridge Road is closed from Mt. Baldy Road to Glendora Mountain Road. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Los Angeles County fire fighters and the California Highway Patrol were called to Highway 39 south of East Fork Road around 10:16 a.m. July 28. Few details are available at the time this post was launched. It is unclear how many bicyclists or vehicles were involved, according to Officer Kendricks of the California Highway Patrol. Firefighters arrived on scene and met with someone who was performing CPR on an injured person, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 39 between rocks Springs Way in Azusa to East Fork Road are closed for at least three more hours for an investigation, the CHP said. A rail delivery train will deliver 1600-foot segments of rail sticks at various points along the L Line route from Glendora to Pomona, according to the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority. The deliveries are expected to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are scheduled to last through Saturday, August 28. At-grade crossings will be affected multiple times. Crossing gates will be functional and may impact traffic for up to five minutes at a time while rail sticks are off-loaded, the construction authority said. In August, the construction authority announced the$1.5 billion, 9.1-mile project to Pomona was 36 percent complete. Construction on this segment from Glendora to Pomona began July 2020. A red flag closure will shut down Glendora Mountain Road from Big Dalton Road to East Fork Road starting at 4 p.m. today and is expected to end 10 a.m. Monday, November 30. Also closed will be Glendora Ridge Road from Glendora Mountain Road to Mt. Baldy Road, according to the US Forest Service. Pedestrians and bicyclists will still have access. A fire weather watch will be in effect for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties starting Thanksgiving afternoon through Friday evening, but may graduate into a red flag warning later Wednesday. Moderate to locally-strong Santa Ana Winds will develop Thursday night and through Friday morning. Winds are expected to peak Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts are expected to reach between 40 and 65 miles per hour over much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Humidity is also expected to dip between 12 to 25 percent Thursday and as low as 6 to 15 percent for Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Santa Ana Winds are expected to dissipate into Saturday. The crash occurred just north of mile marker 23.11 around 7:26 a.m. July 26. CHP officers have closed both north and southbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. All lanes of Highway 39 were closed at 8:30 a.m. and are expected to remain closed for three hours, the CHP said. The sedan crashed into the semi on southbound Rosemead Boulevard south of San Gabriel Boulevard around 12:21 a.m. February 23. According to early CHP reports, the sedan went over and embankment and crashed, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The victim died at the scene.
A Sig Alert was issued for nearly four hours for north and southbound lanes of Rosemead Boulevard between San Gabriel Boulevard and Gallatin Avenue. Temporary “no parking” restrictions will affect portions of Irwindale Road, Ornelas Street and Adelante Street throughout the day. Access to and from the Irwindale Gold Line Station, neighboring parking structure and nearby bus stop for Foothill Transit line 185 will be impacted. The caravan is expected to last roughly 6 hours. East and west traffic on Arrow Highway will be greatly impacted as floats travel south on Irwindale Avenue to westbound Arrow Highway. The California Highway Patrol and local law enforcement will provide escorts for the floats on their journey to Pasadena. Officers were dispatched to the collision at 8:33 a.m. December 15. The motorcycle is still on or near the roadway while the rider went over the side of the mountain, according California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Mt. Baldy Road are shut down during the recovery operation, the CHP said. Two men described as being in their 20s died at the scene of a crash after the driver of a black Toyota Corolla destroyed an LED radar in the 500 block of North Orange Grove Boulevard just before 11 p.m., Pasadena Police said.
The driver and left rear passenger were killed in the crash, which injured two other of the Corolla’s passengers. The injured passengers were hospitalized in stable condition, Pasadena Police said. Evidence at the scene suggested speed played a factor in the crash. |
