First responders were called to the pedestrian bridge east of New Avenue just before 11 a.m. Sunday, March 19. Firefighters reported a body hanging from the bridge and within minutes stated the operation would be a body retrieval, according to San Gabriel Fire Department radio traffic. Officer Moises Marroquin of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center told SGV CityWatch that a Sig Alert in effect was due to a hanging on the pedestrian bridge. at 12:11 p.m., the CHP stated the eastbound express lanes off ramp to New Avenue and the westbound express onramp will continue to be blocked. the westbound I-10 mainline has been reopened. The shooting reportedly took place at 6:12 p.m. in the 500 block of West Norwood Place. The victim, only described as a male adult, was taken to a local hospital for treatment but he was later pronounced dead according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No other information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - It took firefighters more than two hours to knock down a massive blaze that caused widespread damage to the San Gabriel Mission early Saturday.
“The roof is completely gone and it’s completely destroyed inside,” according to San Gabriel Fire Department Captain Antonio Negrete. Firefighters responded to investigate a fire alarm at the mission, 428 S. Mission Dr., at 4:24 a.m. July 11. Fire and smoke were immediately seen from the roof, Negrete told SGV CityWatch. Firefighters attempted to make an aggressive attack on the flames from inside of the mission, but falling debris forced firefighters to go into defensive mode, Negrete told SGV CityWatch. No firefighters were injured. 50 firefighters and 12 fire companies from surrounding cities worked to extinguish the flames. Firefighters declared the flames knocked down at 6:48 a.m., Negrete told SGV CityWatch. The cause of the fire is still being determined. Investigators cannot enter the mission until it is deemed safe, Negrete told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear yet if the fire was suspicious in nature. Traffic is heavily affected in the Mission District area as firefighters and police remain on scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - A shirtless man armed with a handgun continues to evade authorities after allegedly opening fire in the 2000 block of Brighton Street Thursday. The suspect, barricaded in one home for several hours, set fire to the structure before he fled out a rear door and to another structure at the triplex property in the 2000 block of Brighton Street. It is unclear if the second home burned because the suspect intentionally set it, or ignited due to embers from the first home.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau have weapons drawn on the suspect who is erratically running in a rear yard adjacent to the westbound I-10 Del Mar off ramp. No injuries are reported. Authorities are evacuating some residents near the barricaded suspect. Westbound lanes of the I-10 freeway from San Gabriel Boulevard to Del Mar Avenue will be closed. eastbound lanes remain open, San Gabriel officials said. A Monterey Park K9 officer and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau are among assisting agencies working to bring a peaceful resolution.
The suspect may have fired his weapon inside the home, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic, with the sound of several gunshots heard by officers. The three suspects were last seen in the rear yard of a home in the 1100 block of Ramona Street. It is unclear why the suspects were being sought, but the vehicle they were in may have crashed into an undercover San Gabriel detective vehicle, according to Alhambra Police radio traffic. The call for assistance to Alhambra Police was made just before 11 a.m.
A helicopter is assisting with the search. The suspects are initially described as Hispanic men in dark clothing. One was seen wearing a surgical mask. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - An Investigation is underway on the east I-10 freeway at Del Mar Avenue involving a carjacked vehicle and an injured suspect.
A Sig Alert was issued at 11:27 a.m. The HOV and No. 1 lane are blocked for 30 minutes after all lanes were initially closed. CHP Officers were called to the area of a pedestrian in traffic lanes at 11:17 a.m. “A pedestrian was running in lanes, hitting other vehicles,” according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. While Nicholson was unable to confirm details yet, the pedestrian was armed with a weapon, according to CHP radio traffic. The pedestrian, initially thought to be armed with gun, was found carrying a tire iron. The pedestrian was somehow injured and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. Firefighters were dispatched to a reported two-to-three-vehicle collision an the east I-10 west of San Gabriel Boulevard at 11:21 a.m. One person at the scene was treated after going into cardiac arrest, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle associated with the pedestrian was reported stolen out of Huntington Park. Two men carjacked a driver. The location of the second suspect is unknown, according to CHP radio traffic. Adrian Ness is being held in lieu of $2 million bail after shooting his son and wife in the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue in North San Gabriel around 1:45 p.m. Ness was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station and was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, deputies said. A motive for the shooting remains unknown. Deputies responding to a reported gunshot victim encounter Ness and detained him. The son was found soon after. The wife was found possibly in a second location, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Both son and wife were hospitalized and underwent surgery, deputies said. Two people were shot in the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue. A suspect was taken into custody, according to Sgt. Durante of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Two patients were taken to an area hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The patients’ conditions are unknown. According to Sheriff’s broadcast traffic, the shooting resulted from a possible domestic fight. An adult male and woman in her 80s were reportedly shot. |
