SAN GABRIEL - Surrounding residents have been evacuated in a San Gabriel neighborhood Wednesday after a woman reportedly barricaded herself with a weapon inside the house. The incident is unfolding in the 100 block of East Broadway and began just before 9:30 a.m. October 19, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau have assumed command of the operation and crisis negotiators are attempting to get the woman to peacefully surrender. It is not immediately clear what led up to the woman to barricade herself inside the house. San Gabriel Police officers located the dead man in the 1400 block of Prospect Avenue after responding to a gunfire call around 8:10 p.m. January 26. He was shot in the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Officers learned a second male Asian adult with a gunshot wound, was transported to a nearby hospital. Officers believe both victims are related to the same shooting incident. The second victim is being treated for non-life threatening injuries,” according to the the Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a written statement. The shooting reportedly took place at 6:12 p.m. in the 500 block of West Norwood Place. The victim, only described as a male adult, was taken to a local hospital for treatment but he was later pronounced dead according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No other information is available. The shooting took place around 11:17 p.m. in the 1800 block of San Gabriel Boulevard. The unidentified suspect died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. No one else was injured. A little further south, a man was shot outside of a motel in the 2100 block of San Gabriel Boulevard in Rosemead around 4 p.m. Saturday. The man later died after being hospitalized. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - The suspect who caused two homes to burn and shot at San Gabriel officers died after being hit by gunfire Thursday afternoon. The suspect collapsed and died at the doorway to the rear of a home in the 2000 block of Brighton Street, hours after causing chaos and putting residents and authorities in peril. Lt. Rodney Moore of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau confirmed the suspect was armed with a shotgun when he died. Moore said detectives apparently do not know if the suspect died by his own hand or by deputy gunfire. It is unclear how many deputies opened fire. Moore first stated deputies discharged their firearms, but followed by stating there was one deputy shooter. “He did sustain a wound to his upper torso and he was pronounced dead here at the scene,” Moore said. The suspect retreated into one of the burning homes one final time and emerged with a shotgun, aiming it an an unknown target.
As the suspect attempted to step over items at the door, the suspect's head briefly fell limp. He attempted to grab for his chest, or his head and eventually fell lifeless. Everything unfolded just before 12:30 p.m. when San Gabriel Police officers arriving to a family disturbance call met with the suspect who fired one shot at them. At least one officer fired a return shot. The suspect fled into the home, setting off the hours-long barricade. During the course of the barricade, east and west lanes of the I-1o freeway were closed and two homes burned while the suspect ran around the triplex property, arming himself with more weapons and even set off fireworks. The suspect, barricaded in one home for several hours, set fire to the structure before he fled out a rear door and to another structure at the triplex property in the 2000 block of Brighton Street. It is unclear if the second home burned because the suspect intentionally set it, or ignited due to embers from the first home.

Westbound lanes of the I-10 freeway from San Gabriel Boulevard to Del Mar Avenue will be closed. eastbound lanes remain open, San Gabriel officials said. A Monterey Park K9 officer and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau are among assisting agencies working to bring a peaceful resolution.
The suspect may have fired his weapon inside the home, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic, with the sound of several gunshots heard by officers. The shooting was reported at 2:13 a.m. in the 5500 block of Walnut Grove Avenue Monday. Deputies learned after they arrived that the husband accidentally fired on his wife, said Lt. Marsha Williams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple Station. The husband is detained as deputies continue to investigate, Williams said. Adrian Ness is being held in lieu of $2 million bail after shooting his son and wife in the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue in North San Gabriel around 1:45 p.m. Ness was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station and was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, deputies said. A motive for the shooting remains unknown. Deputies responding to a reported gunshot victim encounter Ness and detained him. The son was found soon after. The wife was found possibly in a second location, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Both son and wife were hospitalized and underwent surgery, deputies said. Two patients were taken to an area hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The patients’ conditions are unknown. According to Sheriff’s broadcast traffic, the shooting resulted from a possible domestic fight. An adult male and woman in her 80s were reportedly shot. |
