First responders were sent to 223 W. Las Tunas Blvd. just after 8 a.m. January 23. First responders found one of the vehicles crashed into the security doors of what appeared to be a closed business. It is not immediately clear if authorities determined the cause of the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - A transient with an extensive criminal history was jailed after allegedly crashing a stolen San Gabriel Fire Department ambulance during a pursuit.
The ambulance was taken after paramedics responded to a call for service in the 700 block of Sunset just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 31, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. While on foot in the area the transient, only described as being in his 40s, entered the parked ambulance and sped away. No one else was in the ambulance when it was driven away, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. Police officers located the stolen ambulance and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused and continued fleeing until crashing in the 2800 block of Canterbury Road in San Marino. “The suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries during this pursuit and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As a result of the suspect colliding into numerous motorist, 2 sustained minor injuries and were released on scene. 3 others sustained minor injuries and were transported to two separate hospitals,” according to the San Gabriel Police Department in a written statement. The ambulance was so badly damaged it was taken out of service and has since been replaced. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A man driving a stolen vehicle crashed and ran from officers before being handcuffed Saturday morning, a San Gabriel Police sergeant said.
The suspect fled officers responding to a suspicious vehicle parked in the 800 block of East Hermosa Drive in San Gabriel around 2:17 a.m. The suspect eventually crashed near Arrow Highway and the 605 freeway, according to Sgt. Allen Sam of the San Gabriel Police Department. Officers discovered the vehicle was stolen after they arrived to Hermosa Drive. The suspect drove away before officers could contact him, Sam said. The suspect crashed on private property in Baldwin Park and ran before officers caught and arrested him. The suspect was briefly hospitalized to be medically cleared for booking in the Alhambra jail on suspicion of grand theft auto and recklessly evading police, Sam said. The vehicle was reported stolen November 16 by the Los Angeles Police Department, Sam said. A Sig Alert was issued at 11:27 a.m. The HOV and No. 1 lane are blocked for 30 minutes after all lanes were initially closed. CHP Officers were called to the area of a pedestrian in traffic lanes at 11:17 a.m. “A pedestrian was running in lanes, hitting other vehicles,” according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. While Nicholson was unable to confirm details yet, the pedestrian was armed with a weapon, according to CHP radio traffic. The pedestrian, initially thought to be armed with gun, was found carrying a tire iron. The pedestrian was somehow injured and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. Firefighters were dispatched to a reported two-to-three-vehicle collision an the east I-10 west of San Gabriel Boulevard at 11:21 a.m. One person at the scene was treated after going into cardiac arrest, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle associated with the pedestrian was reported stolen out of Huntington Park. Two men carjacked a driver. The location of the second suspect is unknown, according to CHP radio traffic. Meiyu Li and her granddaughter Paisley Chen were the pedestrians killed by the driver of a Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme pickup truck Friday, October 26. The grandmother was pushing the girl in a stroller when the driver, who is still outstanding, struck them in the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Live Oak Street, authorities said. Investigators said the truck is black or midnight blue, features an extended cab, chrome rims, rear window tint, decals and should have front end damage, San Gabriel Police said. The grandmother and granddaughter were in a marked crosswalk when they were struck, San Gabriel Police said. The driver of a dark or midnight blue Chevy S10 Xtreme pickup truck hit the woman who was pushing her granddaughter in a stroller in a marked crosswalk at Live Oak Street and Del Mar Avenue, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. The pickup featured an extended cab, chrome rims and rear window tint. The truck should have considerable damage concentrated on the right front side, San Gabriel Police said. The collision occurred around 9:35 p.m. Friday, October 26. Images from the scene painted a tragic picture: personal items strewn across the road, including a stroller. The grandmother and child were taken to an area trauma center where they later died. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call the San Gabriel Police Department at 626-308-2828. The victim, De Si Tu of San Gabriel, was found laying in the street around 6:15 a.m. on Valley Boulevard at Stevens Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. Police found surveillance footage that revealed a small, white SUV leaving the area, San Gabriel Police said. The unidentified rider picked up items from a store and was riding back home when he potentially entered Del Mar travelling west to east around 10:32 p.m. when the driver of a black Toyota 4Runner travelling north hit him, said Lt. Brian Kott of the San Gabriel Police Department. The rider was last listed in critical condition. The driver was travelling at 40 miles per hour when the collision occurred, Kott said. The driver, a man in his 60s, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. It is unknown if any alcohol or drug impairment was a factor in the crash, Kott said. |
