The shooting took place at the Sierra Inn, 1171 Durfee Ave. First responders were notified around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 17. The victim was dropped off at a nearby hospital and then was transported to a trauma center for treatment, according to Lt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The victim was grazed in the head by a bullet and is currently in stable condition, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The suspect, only described as a Latino man, is outstanding, as well as the weapon. The shooting occurred in the 2600 block of Gage Avenue December 27 around 12:50 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is not publicly clear yet if the man died outside or inside a residence. The motive of the shooting was also unclear. Deputies have just ended a neighborhood search in the area of Klingerman Street and Continental Avenue around 11:50 p.m. A search of at least one residential property yielded no suspects after the resident reported seeing someone run into their yard.
At least two were wounded by gunfire around 10:40 p.m. Preliminary information suggests that the victims were juveniles, according to Deputy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Deputies were en route to a “check the welfare call” when the gunfire erupted, Koerner said. A passerby flagged down a deputy to report gunfire erupting nearby, according to Sheriff's radio traffic. The victims’ conditions were not readily available. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 10:41 p.m. Firefighters waited four minutes to be cleared in, after which they were told that the victims were transported by a private party, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies have surrounded an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Central Avenue and are attempting to gain entry in the apartment unit where they believe gunfire came from, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. As deputies attempted to enter the property, about six to seven gunshots rang out from a unit on the top level. A deputy reported seeing a large amount of smoke from the unit, possibly caused by the gunfire itself. Deputies knocked on the front door of the unit in question, but no answer was heard. The shooting occurred at Shell, 1130 Peck Rd., around 1:46 a.m. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition was listed as grave and he is not expected to survive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. No victims were found at area hospitals. Deputies responding to a report of shots heard believe that some type of firearm was discharged, said Lt. Frank Ruiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The report of shots fired went out at 12:25 a.m. Initially four to five shots were heard, Ruiz said. What physical evidence deputies found Ruiz declined to reveal. Pico Rivera man Manuel Borrego, 40, died at the scene of the shooting in the 900 block of Durfee Avenue. Deputies responding to a burglary in progress call contacted Borrego who began walking away from them. “The suspect quickly walked away from the deputies and into the street. Once in the street the suspect suddenly stopped and turned toward the deputies. The suspect started to advance on the deputies while holding two large kitchen type knives, one in each hand. That’s when a deputy involved shooting occurred,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Borrego collapsed in the street and died. Two 12-inch kitchen knives were recovered next to Borrego’s body, deputies said. The shooting took place in the 900 block of Durfee Avenue. The suspect died at the scene, according to Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. It is unclear why deputies initially responded to the area, but the CHP was initially called just minutes after the shooting to close off the Durfee Avenue off ramp at the 60 freeway due to a felony stop of a burglary suspect who was hit by gunfire, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau could only confirm a shooting took place and that Homicide detectives are en route to handle the investigation. Deputies from surrounding stations are assisting with containment of the scene, allowing Temple Station deputies to patrol their area. One deputy said that he was positioned next to a “body” and that a barrier was being requested, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to the scene at 8:56 a.m., but cleared about 10 minutes later, according to Dispatcher Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Peters deferred further questions about a shooting to Sheriff’s officials. No further information is available. All three men, who are expected to survive their wounds, were shot at Palaces and Karaoke, 9251 Garvey Ave., around 2:30 a.m. Responding deputies found one victim at Rosemead Boulevard and Garvey Avenue, and soon were called about a second victim nearby, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The second gunshot victim was found about five blocks from the scene. As deputies investigated the shooting, a third victim shot in the leg turned up at a nearby hospital. The suspect is only described as an Asian man. No weapon was recovered. |
