The crash occurred in the 300 block of Monterey Road Tuesday. A vehicle was exiting the driveway of an apartment complex and the unidentified motor officer struck the vehicle. He was ejected from his motorcycle and landed in opposing lanes of traffic, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The driver of the other vehicle said they did not see the officer approaching, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. Monterey Road between Indiana Avenue and Pasadena Avenue were closed for several hours during an investigation. A patrol officer spotted a Lexus sedan with headlights off and no rear license plate suspiciously parked near a Toyota Prius in the 1600 block of Fremont Avenue Thursday, March 2. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle which fled south on Fremont, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The vehicle was first spotted around 3:13 a.m. The suspect driver reached speeds of 70 miles per hour while running multiple red lights. Officers decided to cancel the pursuit due to the suspect’s unsafe driving at Fremont Avenue and Alhambra Road, according to the south Pasadena Police Department. In Alhambra, a patrol officer heard a loud crash, near Fremont Avenue and Orange Street and searched for the source, eventually finding the previously-pursued Lexus involved in a solo rollover crash near Fremont Avenue and Concord Avenue, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The suspects were identified as Cudahy resident Elmer Contreras Robinson, 28, Alberto Avitia, 25, from Huntington Park, and a 16-year-old male from Los Angeles. The collision happened July 27 at Marengo Avenue and Maple Street just before 8:30 p.m. The driver of the white Toyota Sienna truck was north on Marengo when he allegedly ran the stop sign and hit the pedestrians, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The three pedestrians were taken to a hospital where the still-unidentified man was eventually pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota Sienna remained at the scene. “At this time, it remains unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision,” according to the South Pasadena Police Department in a written statement. The rider, a 38-year-old San Gabriel man, suffered life-threatening injuries after crashing at Arroyo Drive and Pasadena Avenue around 10:52 p.m. Sunday, August 16. The rider was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The rider was last listed in critical, but stable condition, South Pasadena Police said. There was apparently no other vehicle involved in the crash, South Pasadena Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor PASADENA - A man South Pasadena Police accuse of driving at high speed was arrested Sunday night after crashing into a parked vehicle and narrowly missing a home with a family inside. The driver, Andrew Mellow, 35, crashed at 161 Columbia St. in Pasadena just after 9:30 p.m. March 8. He was arguing with his girlfriend and decided to drive at high speed during the fight while intoxicated, according to Sgt. Bartl of the South Pasadena Police Department. Mellow allegedly failed to negotiate a turn, hit a vehicle parked in the home’s driveway and stopped in front of the porch, Bartl said.
No one inside the home, nor Mellow or his girlfriend were injured, Bartl said. Officers saw Mellow high-speed driver northbound at Mission Road and Fremont Avenue. They estimated Mellow was moving between 60 to 70 miles per hour, Bartl said. Mellow was booked on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving. The crash occurred at the crossing near Monterey Road at Pasadena Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was west on Monterey Road when it either stopped under the descending railroad crossing arms, or partially went through the already down gate arms, according to Sgt. Matt Ronnie of the South Pasadena Police Department. The train sustained only a dent in the collision. “As the train passed through, so did the car. It left,” Ronnie said. There were apparently no witnesses to the crash. No other motorists witnessed the crash and no one on the train, except for the engineer, saw the collision, Ronnie said. By the time officers were called to the crash, there was already a 20-minute delay, Ronnie said. Metro officials went to the scene to determine if the train was safe to continue or if passengers needed to evacuate to another train, but it was able to continue through, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Twitter. No one was injured when the Lexus crashed through the front of Bristol Cafe, 1621 Grevelia St., around 10:07 a.m., according to Sgt. Tony Abdalla of the South Pasadena Police Department.

The crash was reported just after 2 a.m. in the 1400 block of Huntington Drive. A Los Angeles man was driving at a high rate of speed when he veered off Fair Oaks Avenue and struck the support column, according to South Pasadena Police. The driver sustained significant injuries, South Pasadena Police said. “This investigation is still ongoing; however, alcohol and/or drug impairment appear to be a contributing factor in this collision,” South Pasadena Police said in a written statement. |
