CityWatch Editor ALHAMBRA - Police continue searching for three suspected catalytic converter thieves who fled their ride after slamming into the back of a semi trailer. A fourth suspect was abandoned in the crashed vehicle on the westbound I-10 freeway near Fremont Avenue. That suspect was severely injured and remains hospitalized, according to the Alhambra Police Department. Officers were called to investigate a catalytic converter theft July 24 around 4:44 a.m. at East Beacon Street and South Stoneman Avenue, according to Sgt. Vega of the Alhambra Police Department. Officers interrupted the crime in progress, but the suspects fled in a waiting vehicle. Officers pursued the suspects but soon ended the chase, according to the Alhambra Police Department. “A short time later, an officer approaching the Fremont Avenue exit on westbound Interstate 10 observed that the suspect vehicle had collided with a big rig,” according to the Alhambra Police Department in a written statement. Video from the air showed the suspects’ car slammed into the back of a tractor trailer being hauled on the freeway. The big rig driver was unharmed.
