CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - A 5-year-old child fell into a residential pool Sunday afternoon and later died. The incident unfolded in the 500 block of South 5th Avenue February 23. The child was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased, according to Lt. Villarreal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. First responders were sent to the location around 5:20 p.m. Due to the child’s age, the department’s Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation, Villarreal told SGV CityWatch. The incident evolved from a missing child report. A resident of the area who wished to not be named said a parent was watching his autistic daughter when he lost sight of her. She reportedly fell into a neighbor’s pool. The girl has already been identified as Harley Mendoza. Jie Deng was one of two men stabbed at a nightclub just before 1 a.m. at 131 S. 6th Ave. June 14. Deng and the other victim were taken to a hospital where Deng was pronounced dead. The condition of the second victim is not publicly known. Anyone with information on the stabbing is urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Both men were taken to a hospital where one was pronounced dead. The second man’s condition has not yet been disclosed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau detectives. Sheriff’s Industry Station deputies were sent to the 100 block of South 6th Avenue just before 1 a.m. June 14. The stabbing occurred in an industrial area just south of Valley Boulevard. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS – A suspect in the bed of a white truck reportedly opened fired on a man who had just finished washing his vehicle, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The shooting was reported to deputies in the 500 block of South Basetdale Avenue at 9:13 p.m. October 28. The white truck containing possibly three people was driven south on Basetdale Avenue when it approached the man, then gunfire erupted, according to Lt. Kearney of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. “There was a male in the bed of the truck and he opened fire, striking the victim twice. He was transported to LA County/USC Medical Center and is listed in stable condition,” Kearney told SGV CityWatch. The white truck was last seen fleeing southbound on Basetdale Avenue. Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related, Kearney told SGV CityWatch. The investigation is now being handled by detectives from the department’s Operation Safe Streets, Kearney told SGV CityWatch. The victim wound up at the Arco gas station, 460 Workman Mill Rd. Deputies followed a trail of blood to the crime scene at Basetdale Avenue and Don Julian Road, according to Lt. Julie Geary of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Firefighters responded to a call from deputies around 7:15 p.m. A gas station employee called 911, Geary told SGV CityWatch. The victim was transported to an area trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “The victim was shot three times and is in stable condition. He is expected to live,” Geary told SGV CityWatch. The victim is being uncooperative, Geary told SGV CityWatch. No suspect or vehicle description is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS – A man said to be out on a jog collapsed and was pronounced dead at Workman Mill Road and Don Julian Road early Thursday. Firefighters were called to the scene at 7:53 a.m. January 23 to a cardiac arrest victim near a grocery outlet, according to a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies also responded to a report of a man down. The publicly-unidentified was possibly out for a jog when he collapsed and died, according to Sgt. Andre Kneubuhler of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. The shooting occurred at 3rd Avenue and Don Julian Road just after 10 p.m. June 4. The victim was hit in a lower extremity with an unknown caliber weapon. He was take to an area hospital, according to Sgt. Armando Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.

The suspect was chased on foot by deputies after firing a handgun in the area of 4th Avenue and Lomitas Avenue just before 11 p.m. About 15 people at the gathering fled after the suspect opened fire, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Possibly four people were fired upon, but no one was hit. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in a black long-sleeve shirt, black baseball hat and black pants fled deputies towards a church where deputies lost sight of him. The suspect lost his hat during the chase. Deputies have recovered it, as well as spent shell casings in the street. A helicopter is aiding the search from the air and a K9 unit is en route. |
