CityWatch Editor AZUSA - Cleanup continues on the west 210 freeway west of Vernon Avenue after a major crash sent 5,000 beer cans and kegs across all lanes. Three semi trucks hauling trailers and other vehicles were involved in the crash just before 3 a.m. One of the trailers split in half, spilling the sudsy contents, according to the California Highway Patrol. While the majority of the mess took up the No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes, the CHP briefly stopped all lanes of traffic to remove remaining debris near the center divider to the right shoulder. A Sig Alert remains in effect for the No. 3 and 4 lanes and westbound on ramp at Vernon Avenue. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor AZUSA - The driver of a gray Honda Civic possibly passed out behind the wheel before crashing head-on into a tree on the shoulder of the west 210 freeway Saturday. The crash happened near the Vernon Avenue on ramp just before 3:30 p.m. August 23. Witnesses reported the driver may have passed out, causing the vehicle to swerve across all lanes before slamming into the tree, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. As of 5:29 p.m., the county medical examiner had to estimated time of arrival to the scene. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor AZUSA - All lanes of the eastbound 210 freeway at the Azusa Avenue overpass are temporarily closed after a fatal crash Tuesday evening. Initial reports indicate a motorcycle collided with a black Tesla Cyber Truck around 6:09 p.m. July 15. The collision is taking up the No. 1 and HOV lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A stolen vehicle was recovered Friday and its driver was arrested after a destructive pursuit, police said. Driver Jose Antonio Hernandez Fitoria sideswiped a semi while fleeing officers along the southbound 605 Freeway at Lower Azusa Road in the early morning hours of April 25. The driver crashed while exiting the freeway and try to run down the on-ramp, according to the Azusa Police Department. Officers received a report of a stolen vehicle and attempted to stop Hernandez while he was driving in the area of Foothill Boulevard and Virginia Avenue just before 2:30 a.m. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Anaheim, according to the Azusa Police Department. It is not immediately clear if Hernandez, or anyone else, suffered injuries in the crash. Hernandez was booked on suspicion of multiple charges, including vehicle theft, felony evading, and driving under the influence, according to the Azusa Police Department. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court April 29. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A man in a gold pickup truck shot and wounded another driver on the 210 freeway March 9. The shooting occurred in westbound lanes of the 210 east of Citrus Avenue just after 5 a.m. The victim was driving his 1998 Ford F-150 in the No. 2 lane and saw behind him a gold pickup, possibly a Chevrolet Colorado, in the No. 4 lane with the headlights off. As the suspect came alongside the victim, the latter rolled down his front passenger window to inform the suspect his headlights were off, according to the California Highway Patrol. Both vehicles approached Citrus Avenue. The suspect exited and slowed down on the on ramp. While on the on-ramp, the suspect slowed down. The victim heard a loud noise. When the victim arrived home, he saw damage from two paintball rounds on his vehicle. When he noticed paint on his right forearm, he removed his jacket and saw a large bleeding welt, according to the CHP. The victim had no details about the suspect driver. CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A Perris man is facing an attempted murder charge, accused of shooting at a fellow driver on the 210 freeway October 11. The shooting occurred on the eastbound 210 freeway west of Citrus Avenue. The suspect, Josue Saul Mejia, 41, shot at a woman’s car multiple times. One bullet penetrated a side window, causing it to shatter, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 30-year-old female driver was treated at the scene for minor lacerations. The California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Special Enforcement Team identified Mejia as a suspect. He was arrested in Perris October 14 with assistance from the CHP Inland Division Investigative Services Unit and Major Crimes Unit. Mejia was booked on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AZUSA - A Friday morning pursuit born out of a suspected catalytic converter theft ended with one or more suspects evading capture.
A caller told police dispatchers they believed a catalytic converter theft was in progress in the 200 block of North Alameda Avenue around 1:52 a.m. Friday, April 5. The caller described as many as five people standing around a vehicle. Officers found the red Camaro at Fifth Street and Pasadena Avenue and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled and a pursuit began, according to the Azusa Police Department. The pursuit went westbound on the 210 freeway into Pasadena where the driver exited onto surface streets. Officers headed back to Azusa after losing sight of the vehicle, but as they were returning they relocated the red Camaro and the pursuit began again heading west on the 210 freeway, according to the Azusa Police Department. The pursuit took to the 134 west and the southbound 2 freeway into Los Angeles where officers decided to end the chase for public safety reasons, according to the Azusa Police Department. Officers were unable to determine if a catalytic converter theft ever did occur. No victims have come forward yet. |
