CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Freeway lanes are reopened after the driver of a pickup truck was found dead after a solo crash Christmas Eve. The crash occurred on the southbound 605 freeway just south of Ramona Boulevard before 1 p.m. December 24. The truck, described as a gray Toyota Tacoma, came to a rest in the slow lane after flipping several times, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. The driver died inside the truck. A Sig Alert was requested just before 2 p.m. for the No. 3 and 4 lanes. All closures were canceled around 4:47 p.m. The driver has yet to be publicly identified until next of kin have been notified. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Things went back to normal Monday afternoon after a caller threatened two adjacent banks with explosive devices, police said. The unidentified caller phoned the corporate offices of Chase Bank, 14483 E. Ramona Blvd., and Bank of America, 14401 E. Ramona Blvd. The Baldwin Park Police Department was notified around 1:13 p.m. December 22. The banks’ corporate offices ordered employees to evacuate as a precaution. An El Pollo Loco, which sits between the banks, was evacuated by police, according to Lt. Evan Martin of the Baldwin Park Police Department. The West Covina Police Department assisted by providing a K9 unit to help with searches, while the Irwindale Police Department assisted with providing traffic control. Both banks were cleared around 3:45 p.m. Investigators continue to trace the source of the calls, Martin told SGV CityWatch. ********** Copyright 2025. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Multiple suspects were arrested after police served a search warrant and uncovered a marijuana grow operation December 15. A report of suspicious activity was made in the 3800 block of Downing Avenue. Patrol officers and detectives witnessed activity they say is consistent with a marijuana operation, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Upon serving the search warrant, police detained several suspects and marijuana was seized along with a weapon. The alleged illicit marijuana cultivators also bypassed electric conduits to steal electricity for their operation. “The detained individuals were subsequently arrested on charges related to illegal marijuana cultivation, weapons violations, and utility theft,” according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A motorcycle crash victim died after being taken to a hospital Friday morning. The intersection of Baldwin Park Boulevard and Los Angeles Street remains closed for a collision investigation. First responders were sent to the intersection just after 9:30 a.m. December 5, according to the Baldwin Park Police Department. Just before 10:30 a.m. the rider died. The rider was described as being in his 30s. His name is not publicly available until next of kin are notified. Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to call the Baldwin Park Police Department Traffic Bureau at 626-960-1955. CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - Screams could be heard from crashed vehicles involved in a collision that overturned a semi and tractor trailer Tuesday. The crash has closed all lanes of the transition road from the northbound 605 Freeway to the east I-10 Freeway and from the eastbound I-10 to the northbound 605 freeway. The crash was reported around 10:25 p.m. December 2. It is unclear how many other vehicles were involved in the crash, but early reports indicated as many as two having collided with the tractor trailer. Possible injuries were not disclosed. A 9-1-1 caller reported to dispatchers that the sound of the crash could be heard from their residence and that screaming could be heard, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. It is unclear what the 40,000-pound trailer was carrying when it overturned. ********** Copyright 2025.
