CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A former police officer has been officially charged with 29 felony counts of grand theft related to the shocking theft of more than $104,000 from Baldwin Park Police Association Union funds. Andres Villalobos, 35, is accused of transferring the cash from from the Association’s account into his personal account, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He was taken into custody November 6. After being elected treasurer in 2021, Villalobos is accused of making the transfers over an 18-month period from July 2022 to August 2023. He has since been terminated. When he was arrested, Villalobos was discovered to have in his possession two law enforcement flash-bang grenades. He was additionally charged with two felony counts of possession of a destructive device or explosive and one felony count of commercial burglary, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He faces nearly 27 years in state prison if convicted as charged. Villalobos was arraigned November 10. He pleaded not guilty. A preliminary hearing setting is scheduled for Nov. 24 in Department 132 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
