CityWatch Editor BASSETT - A male victim died on the sidewalk after being hit by gunfire Wednesday afternoon. Investigators are still searching for a suspect or suspects in the fatal shooting. First responders were called to Amar Road near Orange Avenue in the unincorporated community of Bassett around 5:15 p.m. January 28to investigate a report of shots fired, according to Lt. Toone of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and declared the victim dead at the scene. Toone has no additional information that anyone else may have been struck by gunfire. It is not immediately known if this was a drive-by shooting. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau will arrive to the scene and take over the investigation. 23-year-old Christopher Perez of Baldwin Park was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Perez was found suffering several gunshot wounds at Bassett Park, 510 N. Vineland Ave., before 11:30 p.m. Friday. Since then, it is unclear if homicide detectives have developed a suspect identity or a motive. Industry Station deputies responded to the shooting at 2:20 a.m. They arrived and found one man outside the location, 13217 Valley Blvd., unresponsive and suffering from at least one gunshot wound. “The suspect drove his vehicle alongside two victims. The suspect exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the victims,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

The shooting took place in the 13200 block of Valley Boulevard at 2:22 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The victim died at the scene.
