INDUSTRY - A transient was booked on suspicion of arson of property Sunday after allegedly burning an American flag at a roadside memorial.
Scott Kennard, 41, was spotted by a California Highway Patrol officer, and displayed what was deemed as out-of-place behavior as Kennard loitered at Valley Boulevard and Turnbull Canyon Road.
“The CHP Officer saw the suspect grab the American Flag and shield it with his hand. Immediately, flames were seen erupting from the flag,” according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The flag could not be saved as it was consumed by flames. A new flag, however, was placed at the memorial.
Kennard is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
