Oscar Daniel Pineda, 30, is accused of driving south on the mountain road north of Shinn Road at high speed, causing the 2018 Toyota Camry to crash into a dirt berm and overturn onto the asphalt, according to the CHP. The collision occurred January 17 at 11:35 p.m. Pineda’s right rear passenger, a 28-year-old Ontario woman, died at the scene. She has been identified as Janet Hernandez, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Pineda and his other passenger, Brian Martin Valdivia from Los Angeles, were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Neither Hernandez, nor Valdivia were wearing seatbelts, according to the CHP. Pineda was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing bodily injury, according to the CHP. Pineda is being held in lieu of $100,000 ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Municipal Court January 20. The suspects entered 4C’s Finecraft Jewelers, 307 Yale Ave., just before Noon Tuesday. Employees were immediately sprayed with a chemical substance that incapacitated them, according to the Claremont Police Department. Tools were used to smash open display cases. The dollar amount on the loss is apparently undetermined. All three suspects, described as Black males, fled north after running from the store. They are believed to have escaped in a waiting vehicle. One suspect wore a black jacket, black pants with white print on the upper thigh and green gloves. A second suspect wore a black jacket, white shirt, black pants and green gloves. The third suspect wore a black jacket, and red pants with white stripes. The collision was reported just before 6 p.m. near the Baseline Road off ramp. A blue BMW X5 reportedly hit the motorcycle. The rider was discovered down without a pulse in the No. 1 lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. A Toyota Corolla was possibly also involved. At 6:17 p.m., a 2-hour Sig Alert was issued for the HOV and No., 1, 2 and 3 lanes. By 9:13 p.m., the CHP announced all lanes were reopened. It is unclear if alcohol, or drugs played a factor in the crash. It is also unclear if an arrest was ever made. a weapon was recovered. CLAREMONT - A woman died early Sunday morning, the apparent victim of a shooting, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives said. The victim, an adult female, died at the scene in the 800 block of South Indian Hill Boulevard. Authorities were called around 1:42 a.m. October 31, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It is not yet publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect, or at least have a suspect description. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT – Police discovered a mother and her child dead inside a home Tuesday after the two had reportedly not been seen for a few days.
Based on concerns for the mother and child’s well-being, police forced their way into the home in the 1400 block of Morton Circle after their knocking on the front door went unanswered. Both were found dead, according to the Claremont Police Department. Police responded to the home at 7 p.m. October 26. “Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the mother killed the child and then committed suicide. The weapon used during the incident was a knife and it was recovered at the scene,” according to the Claremont Police Department in a written statement. The 18-month-old was identified as Arianny Reyes-Arevalo. The mother was identified as Anabel Reyes-Becerra, according to Sarah Ardalani, public information officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Police did not discover signs of forced entry and police do not believe there is any outstanding suspect. The duo are accused of burglarizing Euro Café, 546 E. Baseline Rd. Officers were dispatched at 2:47 a.m. and after arriving 30 seconds later, saw a suspect flee the business and into a waiting black Jeep SUV, according to the Claremont Police Department. An officer attempted to block the driver from escaping, but the driver used the Jeep SUV, later determined stolen in Ontario, to ram the patrol vehicle, according to the Claremont Police Department. While being pursued by officers, the driver and passenger fled onto Baseline Road without headlights and soon entered the eastbound 210 freeway in opposing lanes of traffic. Officers cancelled the pursuit due to the driver’s reckless nature, according to the Claremont Police Department. “While checking the IS-210 freeway for the suspect vehicle, an officer located a traffic collision on the freeway, west of Fruit Street, involving the suspect vehicle and another vehicle. It was determined that the suspect vehicle was unoccupied, and officers responded to the area to search for the suspects,” according to the Claremont Police Department in a written statement. One suspect was caught hiding in some bushes. A Claremont Police K9 arrived and sniffed out the second suspect who was also hiding in some bushes along the right shoulder. Officers found in the Jeep SUV three cash registers, one reportedly taken from Euro Café, according to the Claremont Police Department. Dejon Butler, 19, was booked on suspicion of burglary, felony evading, evading while driving the wrong way, grand theft auto, possession of a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail ahead of a scheduled court appearance October 20. The 17-year-old was booked on suspicion of burglary, resisting arrest and was later released to the custody of the group facility on a citation to appear in court, according to the Claremont Police Department. The La Verne Police Department and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Helicopter assisted with the search. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CLAREMONT - A large safe and other personal property was recovered from the vehicle occupied by four burglary suspects who decided to flee from Claremont Police and the California Highway Patrol until they crashed and rolled their SUV in Downey Sunday night.
The suspects are accused of committing two residential burglaries May 16. Officers responded just after 8 p.m. to the 800 block of Brigham Young Drive after a resident saw three suspects armed with baseball bats enter the rear yard of a residence. Police did not find the suspects, but recovered a baseball bat. Minutes later, police responded to another address a short distance away, the Claremont Police Department said. A residential burglary alarm was triggered just before 8:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of New Hampshire Ave. Responding officers saw a white SUV leaving the neighborhood. A Claremont officer in an unmarked police vehicle began following that white SUV. Backup officers confirmed a burglary happened at the New Hampshire home, Claremont Police Department said. The white SUV was trailed onto the westbound 210 freeway and then to the southbound 605 freeway with additional Claremont officers and a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter also following. The California Highway Patrol was requested to take over the chase and after attempting to conduct a traffic stop, the suspects fled at high speed. The pursuit entered the city of Downey where the suspects attempted to exit onto Bellflower Boulevard where they crashed on the offramp and rolled in their SUV. The driver ran away, leaving his three accomplices behind in the SUV to eventually be arrested. The driver fled through residential properties and reportedly ran into a garage where he hid briefly before officers located him with the help of a helicopter and took him into custody, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. Lancaster man Dequan Clark, 20, Los Angeles man Jaheim Hickman, 19, Los Angeles man Bernard Peoples, 23, and a 15-year-old juvenile from Hawthorne were taken into custody. Inside the SUV, officers located property reportedly taken from the home on New Hampshire Avenue, Including a large safe. Additional property was also found believed to have been stolen from a home in Chino Hills, Claremont Police said. The three adult suspects were booked on suspicion of attempted burglary, burglary and possession of stolen property. Two of the adult suspects are being held without bail at the Claremont Police Department Jail for probation and parole violations, while the third adult suspect is being held at the Claremont Police Department Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, Claremont Police said. The juvenile suspect was later released on a citation to his parent. All three adult suspects are scheduled to appear at Pomona Superior Court on Tuesday, May 18, Claremont Police said. Funnily enough, firefighters were called at 4:20 p.m. to the home in the 4100 block of New Hampshire Avenue April 7 to smoke seen coming from a home. Firefighters discovered an attic fire and marijuana plants within, according to the Claremont Police Department. With the help of a search warrant, Claremont officers found every room had plants growing within. The street value of the plants was estimated at more than $1 million. “The extreme measures used to illegally grow the marijuana endangered the neighborhood. The fire was most likely caused by the unpermitted electrical wiring,” according to the Claremont Police Department in a written statement. “The home was filled with jerry-rigged wiring used to power special lighting and air filtration systems, including wiring that bypassed the electrical meter and circuit breakers. The electrical power to the residence was disconnected to eliminate the hazard for the public.” The rental property was initially rented out as a fully-furnished home. It was seriously damaged by the work done for the grow operation. The home was deemed unsafe and was red-tagged, the Claremont Police Department said. Officers responded at 8:20 a.m. after being called to a report of shots fired at a home in the 1800 block of Salem Court April 7. One victim was found laying on the street. He was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center and was pronounced dead, according to the Claremont Police Department. Firefighters, dispatched at 8:23 a.m., found a victim in traumatic full arrest, according to Inspector Henry Narvaez, public information officer with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. One other person was found with injuries not related to gunfire, Narvaez told SGV CityWatch. “A 71-year-old male suspect was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered,” according to the Claremont Police Department. It is unclear if the other wounded person was the alleged gunman. The suspect, a 24-year-old La Verne man, is accused of stealing 15 catalytic converters. The devices, along with multiple reciprocating saws, bags of power tools and a floor creeper were all confiscated in the 400 block of Georgia Court, March 31, according to the Claremont Police Department. The suspect reportedly tried to hide from officers who saw him suspiciously driving slowly westbound on Vista Avenue at Indian Hill Boulevard around 4:42 a.m. The suspect parked onto a driveway at a home in the 400 block of Georgia Court, but he was found. “The officer contacted the subject as he was exiting his vehicle and walking to a front door of a home. The subject claimed he was there to visit his girlfriend. The homeowner was contacted and stated they had never seen the subject before,” according to the Claremont Police Department. The stolen catalytic converters, which sported fresh saw cuts, and all the tools were located during a vehicle search. The unidentified suspect was arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing stolen property. He was issued a citation and later released. Officers are still attempting to locate victims of the thefts. Claremont officers are encouraging residents to check their vehicles how to call police if their catalytic converter is missing. |
