Jwan Clinton, 42, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. His cause of death was deferred, pending additional investigation. The body was located in a parking lot on the Grand Avenue side of the park. Officers were called to the parking lot of Wingate Park, 735 N. Glendora Ave., around 8:51 p.m. December 18 to a man down and bleeding from the head. Covina officers arrived and located the victim. Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived and declared the man dead at 9:09 p.m., according to Lt. Tony Zavala of the Covina Police Department in a previous interview. “There was some head trauma, but we don’t know if that’s a result from a fall, or if he was the victim of some type of crime,” Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Detectives are searching for surveillance footage that might help determine how the man died. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE, August 28, 6:18 p.m.: The man who died outside of El Pollo Loco Wednesday afternoon was identified as 42-year-old Erik Garcia, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The cause of death is still unknown. An autopsy has yet to be scheduled. COVINA - A man estimated to be in his 40s died outside of a restaurant August 25 after allegedly causing a disturbance. Covina Police arrived to El Pollo Loco, 621 N. Azusa Ave., just before 4:30 p.m. and found the man outside the front of the restaurant, unconscious and face up, according to Lt. Tony Zavala of the Covina Police Department. A caller told officers just before they arrived that the man passed out and appeared to be not breathing. Police arrived and confirmed that the man had no pulse. “They started CPR and administered two doses of Narcan on the individual, just in case he was suffering some type of heroin, or Fentanyl overdose, but the subject was pronounced dead by LA County Fire,” Zavala told SGV CityWatch. The initial call was for a male causing a disturbance and yelling at patrons, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. There were no injuries reported and no property damage caused at the El Pollo Loco, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. It is not yet known what caused the unidentified man to die. An autopsy will reveal potential causes. Officers were called to the 100 block of West Orange Street at 5:22 a.m. and found both victims who were both treated at the scene and then transported to a local hospital, according to the Covina Police Department. “We believe we have no outstanding subjects in this matter,” Detective Lieutenant Daniel Reagan of the Covina Police Department told SGV CityWatch. Detectives took over the investigation and recovered a knife and firearm at the scene. Firefighters were called to 1138 W. McGill St., at 1:25 a.m. to a single-story home where the fire was burning, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The body of a dead man was found in a burned RV, according to Captain John Kades of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The fire was knocked down at 1:49 a.m., Peters told SGV CityWatch. Coroner investigators are still trying to positively identify the victim, Kades told SGV CityWatch. The fire was dispatched at Noon in the 500 block of E. Tudor St., April 19. Firefighters were initially told the two occupants were unable to escape due to flames blocking a bedroom door. Both victims were eventually taken from the home by firefighters, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. An adult male signed out against medical advice. An adult female with critical injuries later died, firefighters said. It took 25 firefighters to extinguish the flames in 10 minutes, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Investigators were sent to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters responded to a medical emergency call at a residence on East Badillo Street just west of Glendora Avenue around 10:08 a.m. April 18. Both Victims were reportedly in full arrest, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Both victims are in their 20s, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Someone inside the residence called 9-1-1. Zavala wouldn’t say who made the call. Zavala said that investigators were still determining what drug was taken by the victims. Juan Interiano, a 28-year-old Inglewood man, was identified by Lt. Kristy McCracken of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. An autopsy is scheduled in the next two days. The condition of the hospitalized victim was not given, but Zavala said the victim survived the overdose. Jose Javier Salgado, 39, was located at Azusa Avenue and Arrow Highway after three suspicious fires were set. He reportedly admitted to setting the fire at Walmart, according to the Covina Police Department. Salgado was placed on a psychiatric hold, Covina Police said. Firefighters were sent to the first blaze behind the Covina Walmart, 1275 N. Azusa Ave., at 10:36 p.m. April 15. Firefighters finally knocked down the blaze at 11 PM, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman. Cardboard, wood pallets and a forklift burned in the Walmart fire which forced the evacuation of those within, but no injuries were reported, Covina Police said. At 11:34 PM, firefighters were dispatched to a dumpster fire behind Pupuseria Mi Salvador, 474 E. Arrow Hwy. A third fire was ignited at Hollenbeck Park, 1250 N. Hollenbeck Ave. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:48 p.m. to a dumpster fire, Pitman told SGV CityWatch. Salgado is suspected in setting fires April 4 at Covina’s Guitar Center, the Covina Bowl, Walmart, Ross and Loan Max, Covina Police said. Salgado is also accused of igniting a fire in the area of Newburgh Street and Azusa Avenue. Azusa Police captures Salgado after the Newburgh fire, was arrested and placed on a psychiatric hold, Covina Police said. Covina Police Chief John Curley issued a scathing statement via social media Thursday detailing the failure of the California justice system to keep criminals behind bars: “10 arson fires in less than 2 weeks and unfortunately in California, “serial arson” is not considered “VIOLENT”....just like human trafficking of a child, rape by intoxication, and many others. Disgraceful to our community,” Curley said. A third fire was ignited at Hollenbeck Park, 1250 N. Hollenbeck Ave. Firefighters were dispatched at 11:48 p.m. to a dumpster fire, Pitman told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear if the three fires are connected to each other. Repeated calls to a Covina Police supervisor went unanswered. It is also unclear if the recent fires are connected to a series of fires sparked April 4. A suspect was detained after fires were ignited along the Azusa Avenue corridor in Covina and Azusa. The fire spread to the attic above two units in the 1200 block of Wanamaker Drive around 8:11 a.m., March 1. The fire was extinguished roughly 30 minutes later, according to firefighters at the scene. Firefighters report one patient at the scene. |
