A vehicle struck a brick wall and ruptured the natural gas line in the 21300 block of Cottonwood Lane around 9:28 a.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Art Marrujo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters are on scene and the gas company has been called to shut off the gas line. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies are helping with evacuations and are diverting traffic in the area. The red freightliner reportedly fled the scene of the crash after initiating the collision on the eastbound 60 freeway west of Grand Avenue, which occurred just after 10 p.m. The freightliner was seen by eyewitnesses exiting the freeway at Grand Avenue towards Valley Boulevard. The rider, Daniel Guttierrez, 39, from Riverside died at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol. The red freightliner was east on the 60 freeway and merged onto the No. 1 lane to the northbound 57 freeway. The freightliner struck a red 2009 Toyota Corolla. The Corolla was sent into a white freightliner, which was in the No 2 lane of the north 57 freeway. The Corolla’s driver, a 25-year-old Pomona woman, accelerated to get out from between the two freightliners. The Corolla caught the front bumper of the red freightliner and veered across traffic lanes, striking the center divider, the CHP said. The Corolla bounced back into traffic lanes, striking Gutierrez and his motorcycle in the No. 1 lane, the CHP said. Arriving CHP officers found Gutierrez inside the detached rear bumper of the Toyota. A search for the red freightliner turned up nothing. Anyone who witnessed the collision is urged to call CHP officer Resa Rombouts at 626-338-1164. One patient was taken to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Sig Alert has been issued for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and possibly 3 lanes of traffic for an unknown duration. Los Angeles County Firefighters have arrived on scene and are taking over patient care. A red sedan reportedly struck a motorcycle just after 8 p.m. The motorcycle and rider hit the pavement, while the sedan continued on and hit the center divider. The rider went down in the No. 1 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor DIAMOND BAR - Sheriff’s deputies are planning a DUI/driver license checkpoint at an undisclosed location in town on Friday the 13th.
Deputies will check each driver they stop for proper licensing, signs of alcohol and drug impairment, the latter of which now accounts for a growing number of DUI collisions, authorities said. The checkpoint location is chosen based on collision statistics and the frequency of DUI arrests. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. One firefighters received an unspecified injury during the response to the 100-foot by 100-foot grass fire near Grand Avenue, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire was reported at 9:28 p.m. and was knocked down at 9:41 p.m. Initial reports indicated that the firefighter suffered a possible broken leg, but Rangel could not confirm the type of injury, only describing it as minor. The firefighters was taken to an area hospital for treatment. |
