The burglary occurred at Janet’s, 1402 Huntington Dr., just after 4 a.m. The suspects, wearing face masks, dark hoodies and dark pants, were caught on surveillance video as they forced their way through the front entrance and made their way to a cash register and safe, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The suspects used a skill saw to cut open the safe and took money bags from inside,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. The suspects escaped in a possible gray Volvo sedan. The home burglary occurred in the 1900 block of Royal Oaks Drive. The burglary is believed to have occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2:18 p.m. Approximately $70,000 in jewelry and purses were stolen, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives state no surveillance video is available. It is unclear if anyone obtained a description of any suspects. The strong arm robbery occurred around 3 p.m. at Lena Valenzuela Park, 2120 S. Mountain Ave. The victim, fearing for his safety, surrendered the iPhone and fled. The loss was $1,050, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The only description of the suspects labeled them as Latino. Deputies searched and secured Duarte High School, 1565 Central Avenue, and California School of the Arts, 1401 Highland Avenue, February 7. A call was received at 9:29 a.m. of an active shooter at the Duarte High School address, but the caller mentioned California School of the Arts, according to Sgt. Robert Leyba of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “We’ve been informed just a little while ago that there were several hoaxes in different counties with an active shooter and students,” Leyba told SGV CityWatch. Both schools were searched, and nothing was found. Detectives are trying to determine the source of the call and if the call in Duarte was related to any of the hoax calls in surrounding counties. The suspect and passenger met at a party in Pomona around 5 p.m. that same day. The suspect drove the passenger to Duarte and without notice, the suspect placed a knife to the victim’s neck, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The crash happened in the 2200 block of Huntington Drive. “The suspect drove while holding a knife to the victim’s neck and then the suspect punched the victim several times, causing him to collide with another vehicle,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. It is unclear if the suspect was ever identified to law enforcement and arrested. The suspect fled the crash and was last seen at a nearby gas station. The shooting occurred in the area of Shrode Avenue and Broderick Avenue around 6 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The suspect was described as a Latino man, 18 to 30 years old. He wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts and has neck tattoos and a mustache. The suspect was armed with a 9-milimeter handgun. The victim told deputies he does not claim any gang membership. It is not immediately clear if a motive was learned. Between 9:50 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. entry was made through a rear sliding glass door in the 900 block of Livermont Lane August 18. Taken from a bedroom was $10,000. Damage to the sliding door was $400, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. No surveillance video is available. It is unclear if detectives have any descriptions of a suspect. The burglary occurred at a pharmacy at 931 Buena Vista St., just before 6 a.m. Doors to the east side of the building were pried open and a suspect or suspects stole the property, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The loss was unknown at the time of the report. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor DUARTE – Additional patrols have been added to all Duarte neighborhoods after a man reportedly dressed as an Amazon delivery worker stole a package from a home, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced June 21.
A suspect in an Amazon delivery shirt was caught on surveillance video “appearing to impersonate an Amazon delivery driver,” according to the City of Duarte. The incident was recorded June 16 in the 2500 block of Elda Street at 3:30 p.m. ”Witnesses reported that the man was sitting in his vehicle waiting on the street for the Amazon delivery driver, and after the delivery came, he followed to steal the package,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. The suspect drove in a yellow Kia EV6. Deputies ask residents to be vigilant, but to refrain from confronting strangers. Report suspicious persons, vehicles and to write down a license plate number if it is available. Report possible crimes in progress to the Sheriff’s Temple Station at 626-448-9861. Detectives offered a much clearer image of the man they believe committed the assault in the 1200 block of Huntington Drive at 3 a.m. The suspect is described as a black man who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has curly hair and was last seen wearing a blue sweater, blue pants and was carrying a dark-colored camouflage backpack.
