Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor DUARTE - A man is accused of firing a hand gun into the air Saturday night for unknown reasons and fleeing the scene, a Sheriff’s sergeant said.
Callers reported hearing gunfire near the Days Inn, 1533 Huntington Drive, around 6:49 p.m. The suspect was seen shooting the gun into the air. No people or surrounding buildings were hit by the gunfire, said Sgt. Curt Messerschmidt of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived, but deputies were able to identify the man and made phone contact with him, Messerschmidt said. Deputies located the suspect in unincorporated Monrovia near Park Land Drive and Lemon Avenue, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The suspect, Corey Nicholas Dobbs, 34, was arrested, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Dobbs was detained without incident and a search of the vehicle he was in revealed a semi-automatic handgun and spent shell casings, Messerschmidt said. Once detained by deputies, the suspect refused to talk, Messerschmidt said. Dobbs was booked on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and is scheduled for a court appearance in Alhambra Superior Court April 10. |
