Deputies went to the school, 1401 Highland Ave. at 3 a.m. and located a suspect, only described as a Latino man, inside of the property. The classroom he was inside where the alarm activated was ransacked and multiple laptops were placed next to a door, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The burglary occurred at Janet’s, 1402 Huntington Dr., just after 4 a.m. The suspects, wearing face masks, dark hoodies and dark pants, were caught on surveillance video as they forced their way through the front entrance and made their way to a cash register and safe, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The suspects used a skill saw to cut open the safe and took money bags from inside,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. The suspects escaped in a possible gray Volvo sedan. The home burglary occurred in the 1900 block of Royal Oaks Drive. The burglary is believed to have occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2:18 p.m. Approximately $70,000 in jewelry and purses were stolen, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives state no surveillance video is available. It is unclear if anyone obtained a description of any suspects. The strong arm robbery occurred around 3 p.m. at Lena Valenzuela Park, 2120 S. Mountain Ave. The victim, fearing for his safety, surrendered the iPhone and fled. The loss was $1,050, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The only description of the suspects labeled them as Latino. Deputies searched and secured Duarte High School, 1565 Central Avenue, and California School of the Arts, 1401 Highland Avenue, February 7. A call was received at 9:29 a.m. of an active shooter at the Duarte High School address, but the caller mentioned California School of the Arts, according to Sgt. Robert Leyba of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “We’ve been informed just a little while ago that there were several hoaxes in different counties with an active shooter and students,” Leyba told SGV CityWatch. Both schools were searched, and nothing was found. Detectives are trying to determine the source of the call and if the call in Duarte was related to any of the hoax calls in surrounding counties. The unidentified man died at the scene in the 3200 block of Hacienda Drive. Homicide detectives are assisting Azusa Police with the investigation, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The unspecified incident occurred at 10 a.m. No other information is available. The suspect and passenger met at a party in Pomona around 5 p.m. that same day. The suspect drove the passenger to Duarte and without notice, the suspect placed a knife to the victim’s neck, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The crash happened in the 2200 block of Huntington Drive. “The suspect drove while holding a knife to the victim’s neck and then the suspect punched the victim several times, causing him to collide with another vehicle,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station in a written statement. It is unclear if the suspect was ever identified to law enforcement and arrested. The suspect fled the crash and was last seen at a nearby gas station. The shooting occurred in the area of Shrode Avenue and Broderick Avenue around 6 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The suspect was described as a Latino man, 18 to 30 years old. He wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts and has neck tattoos and a mustache. The suspect was armed with a 9-milimeter handgun. The victim told deputies he does not claim any gang membership. It is not immediately clear if a motive was learned.

DUARTE - Two 17-year-olds were hospitalized Thursday night, reportedly found without their pulse and not breathing inside a home.
Deputies were called to the home at 8:55 p.m. November 3. Family members found the teens in the home on Bettyhill Avenue just north of Treefern Drive, according to Sgt. Leyba of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station.
Suspecting a possible Fentanyl overdose, deputies readied doses of Nalaxone, known by the brand name Narcan, and deployed the opioid inhibitor once on scene, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic.
“The deputies administered three cans of Narcan, because it was believed it was a possible Fentanyl overdose. Deputies also performed chest compressions until firefighters arrived, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Leyba did not know the current condition for the teens and said deputies were still determining what was behind the overdose. Between 9:50 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. entry was made through a rear sliding glass door in the 900 block of Livermont Lane August 18. Taken from a bedroom was $10,000. Damage to the sliding door was $400, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. No surveillance video is available. It is unclear if detectives have any descriptions of a suspect. |
