The attack occurred at 4 p.m. near 12076 Valley Blvd. After the victim thwarted the attack, the suspect fled on foot. It is unclear if the victim sustained any injuries. The only description provided of the suspect is that he is a Latino man between the ages of 25 to 35. An extensive perimeter search yielded the arrest of two suspects. There may have been as many as four suspects committing the crimes, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. Officers responded to multiple calls of the home invasion robberies occurring in the 2700 block of Potrero Avenue, November 27. All the homes were close to each other. Rasic was unsure of exactly what type of weapon was used during the home invasion robberies, only describing it as a blunt force style weapon. He also was unsure how the suspects entered. Detectives do not believe at this time that any property was taken, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The suspects were described as Black males, all young adults. Identifying information for the suspects that were arrested is not yet available. The suspects are still being processed, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The five suspects were involved to varying degrees in an assault in the 10500 block of Valley Boulevard around 8 p.m. November 14. The victims, a father and son, were allegedly assaulted after leaving a restaurant, according to lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. Police quickly saw the suspect vehicle near the scene after the victims described the vehicle. The driver and suspects sped away after officers attempted a traffic stop, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The fled officers at high speeds, sometimes at 100 miles per hour. During the pursuit a handgun was tossed from the suspect vehicle, but was later recovered, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. The pursuit ended with three suspects being quickly detained on Santa Anita Avenue near Valley Boulevard in El Monte. Two suspects continued to flee on foot, with one fleeing into the rather large Rio Hondo flood control channel, but both fleeing suspects were caught, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. In an odd twist, a vehicle seemingly unrelated to the pursuit caught fire on Santa Anita Avenue south of Valley Boulevard just after the pursuit ended. The driver of the burning vehicle told officers that while in Los Angeles he was a victim of a crime involving the assault suspects. Officers are investigating this new allegation, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. Booking information was not yet available. Officers are investigating two related crime scenes, one at Landsdale Avenue and Cogswell Road, and one at North Durfee Avenue and East Garvey Avenue, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. A suspect in a vehicle reportedly opened fire at the motorcyclist. Police responded to the area around 6:20 p.m., Knight told SGV CityWatch. Descriptions of the suspect and the suspect vehicle were not immediately available. The investigation is ongoing, Knight told SGV CityWatch. The shooting reportedly took place in the 11600 block of Garvey Avenue around 2:10 a.m. April 15, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The Information Bureau did not yet state if a suspect was still being sought. However, deputies from the Sheriff’s Temple Station stated earlier over radio traffic in the 4 a.m. hour that a suspect from an assault with a deadly weapon was at-large. El Monte police officers responded to the 9800 block of Rio Hondo Parkway around 4:14 p.m. April 4. They discovered a man who would later die at the apartment from his wounds, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Witnesses said a man also involved in a shooting fled the scene and into a nearby apartment complex. Officers searched the complex and found the second gunman who was also wounded. He was hospitalized and was last listed in critical condition, deputies said. “Detectives believe the males are involved in gangs and were in an ongoing dispute over a vehicle. Both males shot each other and both firearms were recovered at the scene,” deputies said in a written statement. Police responded to the 11400 block of Lambert Avenue around 3:20 p.m. April 18 to a report of a vicious dog which allegedly tried to bite a resident. During an interview with the resident, an El Monte officer fired his weapon at the dog after it allegedly charged at them, according to Lt. Pete Rasic of the El Monte Police Department. “The dog was shot at, but not hit,” Rasic told SGV CityWatch.
The dog’s owner, 33-year-old Michael Montenegro, called his pet back to him and reportedly made threats towards officers. He went into his home, Rasic told SGV CityWatch. Montenegro, an El Monte resident, refused to exit for officers until 8 a.m. Sunday morning when he surrendered. The dog was taken away by animal control. Montenegro was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. |
