Police responded to a robbery call at 1:55 p.m. and during a search, found a man matching a suspect description near Durfee Avenue and Garvey Avenue February 15. The suspect ran from an officer who attempted to speak with him, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect ended up near the freeway off ramp at Durfee Avenue. The officer caught up with him and the two began fighting with each other. Another officer arrived as back up. It was then that a police shooting occurred, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The suspect died at the scene. No officers were injured. The fire is burning at 10103 Valley Blvd. Fire is burning in the facade and throughout the attic. A second alarm response was requested, doubling resources at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Fire is burning through the roof and from end to end in the strip mall. Traffic along Valley Boulevard will be greatly impacted due to the amounts of fire department resources at the scene. Police responded to a reported shooting victim around 8:44 p.m. in the 4500 block of Peck Road, May 3. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and he is undergoing surgery, according to Lt. Shane Buckhannon of the El Monte Police Department. County firefighters were summoned by El Monte officers who asked that they wait to be cleared into the crime scene. At 8:49 p.m., firefighters were able to enter the scene, treat the victim and then transport him for surgery, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Buckhannon has no current update of the victim’s condition, or if any possible suspect is being sought. No other information is available. EL MONTE - Firefighters are battling a fire at a residential property. The fire is burning inside what was described by firefighters as a single-story quadplex in the 11700 block of Magnolia Street. Dispatched at 5 a.m., firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No other information is available. 22-year-old David Lemus-Orellana is being held in lieu of $1 million bail in the death of Florida Velasquez-Hernandez. The woman’s body was found in the 3300 block of Maxson Road Tuesday, February 4, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The motive for the murder is unknown, the Sheriff’s Department said. El Monte Police responded to calls of a man dragging a woman’s body to some dumpsters just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and arriving officers made the grim discovery. Authorities eventually interviewed witnesses and had a possible suspect detained. It is unclear if the initial suspect is Lemus-Orellana. |
