CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man was shot dead and two others wounded in an early-morning shooting at a sports bar, investigators said. The victim who was killed died inside of the sports bar. A second victim who fled the scene was located at a hospital. She is in stable condition. Witnesses report another woman was shot, but she fled the location and her whereabouts are not known, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were sent to a report of gunfire around 12:09 a.m. in the 10700 block of Lower Azusa Road, October 12. As El Monte police officers arrived, bystanders directed officers into the bar to a gunshot victim. While investigators did not name the bar, the general address combined with Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records indicate the shooting occurred at the Silver Dollar Saloon, 10729 Lower Azusa Rd. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect or suspects. Officers discovered the body of an Asian man while conducting a welfare check at a home in the 10500 block of Bisby Street around 6:30 p.m. The publicly unidentified victim had visible trauma to the upper torso , according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - One person was declared dead in an El Monte neighborhood Tuesday evening. First responders were sent to the 10500 block of Bisby Street, around 6:30 p.m., June 18. The victim, only described as a male adult, was found at the location, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The apparent cause of death was not immediately shared. Broadcast traffic from the Los Angeles County Fire Department briefly detailed a room by room search at the location by El Monte police officers who discovered one person down. Firefighters stood by until the scene was secured for them to go in and begin treating the patient. It is not immediately clear, if investigators have determined a motive, or have acquired a suspect description. First responders were sent to the location just before 5:30 a.m. Thursday, November 9. The No. 5, 6 and 7 Lanes are shut down until at least 7 a.m. until the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner arrives, according to the California Highway Patrol. Prior to the crash, there were numerous reports of a man with a backpack nearly being struck while walking near the slow lane of the west I-10 freeway. The pedestrian was finally struck and went down in the No. 4 lane, according to CHP traffic logs. El Monte Police officers responding to a assault with a deadly weapon call in the 11000 block of Ranchito Street discovered the body of a 40 to 45-year-old woman. She suffered from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. First responders were sent to the location just before 5 p.m. Sunday, October 22. The suspect, only described as a Latino woman 20 to 25 years old, was detained outside of the residence. She was later taken into custody. A potential murder weapon was found at the scene. It is not publicly clear if investigators have determined a motive. The fire burned at a two-story apartment complex in the 11400 block of Magnolia Street in El Monte just after 3 a.m. Monday, March 27. First responders arrived to find one unit at the complex well involved with flames, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “When the fire was extinguished, it was discovered that a decedent was found in one of the apartments,” according to El Monte Police Lt. Peter Rasic. El Monte Police detectives are assisting county fire investigators and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner in determining the cause. The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents. Authorities and Los Angeles County firefighters responded to the bus terminal, 3501 Santa Anita Ave., at 5:54 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive person. Firefighters were unable to revive the man and he was declared dead at the scene, according to Lt. Hebb of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau. The man was found near bus bay 29, Hebb told SGV CityWatch. It is unclear how long the man was there before being discovered. Lowry, who began his tenure as El Monte police chief in December of 2021, died from health issues, according to a written statement from the City of El Monte. Lowry died Monday, October 24. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lowry family during this difficult time. We are all at a loss and mourning a great leader, man, husband, son, friend and colleague,” according to Acting Police Chief Jake Fisher. “Chief Lowry’s dedication and commitment to the department and residents of El Monte will never be forgotten.” Lowry served with the El Monte Police Department for 20 years, having transferred from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 2002. Lowry was officially sworn in as El Monte Police Chief this June,” according to the City of El Monte. Lowry Led the department through the shocking murders of two of his own police officers. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced in the coming days. “The City of El Monte is saddened and shocked by tonight’s tragic shooting that killed two of our own police officers,” according to city officials. Officers were responding to a reported stabbing at the Siesta Inn, 10237 Garvey Ave., and immediately came under fire upon arrival, according to El Monte officials. “There are no words to describe our grief and devastation by this senseless act as we learned about the passing of two of our police officers. It weighs heavy on our hearts and we are sending our support to their families,” according to a joint statement by the City of El Monte, El Monte Police Department and El Monte Police Officers Association. |
