EL MONTE - The suspect shot by a Sheriff’s deputy Tuesday night was armed with a toy gun, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
A Sheriff’s deputy on patrol tried to contact the suspect after seeing him carry packages near Seaman Avenue and Giovane Street around 11:30 p.m. The deputy saw the gun tucked into the suspect’s waistband and ordered him to put his hands up, said Lt. Derrick Alfred of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect reportedly grabbed for the gun and the deputy opened fire, striking him.
The suspect’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
