CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Street closures remain in effect while authorities investigate a police shooting that led to one suspect receiving injuries considered not life-threatening Monday. Officers were investigating a stolen vehicle report April 14 in the area of Garvey Avenue and New Deal Avenue. At some point, a shooting occurred and one suspect was struck by gunfire, according to Sgt. Burse of the El Monte Police Department. The shooting occurred around 11:50 a.m. “No officers were injured. We have two suspects in custody. We’re still developing information at this point. LASD Homicide is responding for the investigation,” Burse told SGV CityWatch. The areas of Garvey Avenue and Valley Boulevard remain closed, as well as Garvey Avenue between Peck Road and Tyler Avenue, according to the El Monte Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating the Monday shooting death of a man. A man was found shot in the 2300 block of Peck Road April 7 around 9:30 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Detectives have yet to reveal the possible circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man accused of burglary by store employees allegedly brandished a handgun In retaliation, leading to a deadly police shooting Monday, investigators said. The man was accompanied by a female when they tried to leave Target, 3610 Peck Rd., with merchandise not paid for around 8:45 p.m. December 16. Employees confronted the man and woman who then left empty handed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The man returned to the Target, weapon in hand, and brandished it, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Both suspects fled in a vehicle before El Monte Police officers arrived, setting off a search. Officers located and tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused. After a brief chase, the man fled the vehicle on foot. Officers followed the man to the 11000 block of Tyler Avenue where he was shot multiple times. He died at the scene. A semiautomatic weapon was found, according to the Sheriff’s Department. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - Sheriff’s homicide detectives are investigating what led El Monte police to shoot and kill a man who allegedly caused a disturbance at a shopping center Monday night. The suspect, who remains publicly unidentified, was allegedly causing a disturbance and brandishing a weapon at a target store around 8:45 p.m. December 16. El Monte officers called to the disturbance located a dark-colored vehicle the suspect allegedly drove from the scene and attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and lead officers on a brief chase, authorities said. The suspect ran from the vehicle in the area of Tyler Avenue and Valley Boulevard The suspect died at the scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - A man was shot dead and two others wounded in an early-morning shooting at a sports bar, investigators said. The victim who was killed died inside of the sports bar. A second victim who fled the scene was located at a hospital. She is in stable condition. Witnesses report another woman was shot, but she fled the location and her whereabouts are not known, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders were sent to a report of gunfire around 12:09 a.m. in the 10700 block of Lower Azusa Road, October 12. As El Monte police officers arrived, bystanders directed officers into the bar to a gunshot victim. While investigators did not name the bar, the general address combined with Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatch records indicate the shooting occurred at the Silver Dollar Saloon, 10729 Lower Azusa Rd. It is not publicly clear if investigators have identified a suspect or suspects. CityWatch Editor EL MONTE - After nearly 4 hours, an armed suspect was taken into custody after refusing to exit a home Sunday. The suspect allegedly made threats against his father, stating he wanted to kill him, barricaded himself instead of a home and refused to comply with orders to surrender. Officers were sent to a home in the 12400 block of Clinton Street around 11:48 a.m. July 7, according to the El Monte Police Department. El Monte Police dispatchers were notified via 911 text of the unfolding incident. After making verbal contact with the texter, dispatchers were told that the suspect also allegedly pointed a gun at a friend, according to Lt. Knight of the El Monte Police Department. Just after the victims inside the house evacuated, officers heard a single gunshot go off. SWAT officers eventually arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody, night told SGV CityWatch. No one was injured. First responders were sent to a neighborhood in the 3800 block of Penn Mar Avenue around 3:35 a.m. Saturday, April 20. The victim, only described as a female adult, was declared dead at the scene. Investigators have released no further details on what led to the woman’s death. “The City of El Monte is saddened and shocked by tonight’s tragic shooting that killed two of our own police officers,” according to city officials. Officers were responding to a reported stabbing at the Siesta Inn, 10237 Garvey Ave., and immediately came under fire upon arrival, according to El Monte officials. “There are no words to describe our grief and devastation by this senseless act as we learned about the passing of two of our police officers. It weighs heavy on our hearts and we are sending our support to their families,” according to a joint statement by the City of El Monte, El Monte Police Department and El Monte Police Officers Association. A large crime scene is being taped off around 10327 Garvey Avenue as El Monte officers and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies work to contain the area. The officer’s condition is not publicly known. The status of the downed suspect is not yet known. A second Officer May have been wounded. El Monte officers are checking for possible wounded people at the Siesta Inn Motel, 10327 Garvey Avenue. The suspect’s family has arrived to the scene. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Temple Station, Norwalk/Pico Rivera Station are assisting. Andrew Valencia, 31, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. He died of a gunshot wound to the chest. His death was ruled a homicide. Valencia was found wounded, but still alive in the 3000 block of Allgeyer Avenue May 5. Firefighters and El Monte Police officers were called around 4:50 a.m. He was taken to a hospital and later declared dead. Valencia was found laying to the side of a road near a business. Surveillance footage apparently revealed a dark-colored sedan was driven to the location and Valencia was pushed out of the vehicle, leading investigators to believe he was shot elsewhere.
