One other victim died inside of a crash vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. Possibly as many as six vehicles ended up being involved in a collision on the eastbound side of the 210 freeway. The crash was reported around 12:13 a.m. December 17. Authorities issued a Sig Alert at 12:46 a.m. for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes on the westbound side. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A tip from a Glendora resident helped investigators locate and arrest a man wanted in two November robberies, Glendora Police said.
27-year-old Bryan Cornejo of Duarte was tracked down to Ontario December 9 where he was found driving. He refused to stop and led police from Glendora and Ontario on a pursuit until he crashed and ran on foot, Glendora Police said. Cornejo was arrested without further incident. Officers found and seized a replica handgun used in the November 17 and November 25 robberies, according to the Glendora Police Department. In both robberies, Cornejo is accused of approaching lone individuals. He revealed a handgun and demanded property from his victims. Conejo fled with a wallet and sell phone in one robbery, a purse and the second, Glendora Police said. Search warrants were served at two residences and investigators recovered most of the stolen property, Glendora Police said. At the time of his arrest, Cornejo was on formal probation for a robbery committed in 2019, Glendora police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed three charges against Cornejo. One count of felony identity theft and two counts of second-degree robbery. “Cornejo has a previous conviction for robbery, which is a strike, however, a sentencing enhancement based on that conviction can no longer be alleged during criminal filing under the new County District Attorney charging directives,” Glendora police said. Frank Hernandez, 47, is accused of backing his blue Chevrolet Silverado aggressively during a traffic stop at 13736 Valley Boulevard in Industry. The action forced the deputy to leap out of the way, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred around 11:37 p.m. “As the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect suddenly put his vehicle in reverse, rapidly backed up toward the deputy, causing the deputy to jump out of the way to avoid being struck,” Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The suspect took off with the deputy pursuing west on Valley Boulevard. The pursuit stuck to surface streets at mostly 50 miles per hour, at times reaching 90 into Irwindale where the suspect fled east on Foothill Boulevard. Hernandez suddenly stopped on east Route 66 at Lorraine Avenue, fled the vehicle and disappeared briefly, before walking back to deputies to surrender, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. It is not immediately clear if Hernandez discarded illegal property before surrendering. A motive for fleeing is not immediately clear. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $201,250 bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Rio Hondo Municipal Court in El Monte December 11.
