Officers arrived to a parking structure near the AMC 12 theaters on the report of a possible catalytic converter theft in progress. After locating a suspect vehicle, officers attempted a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver eventually stopped in the middle of the street in the 800 block of South Cerritos Avenue in Azusa. The two juveniles inside the vehicle ran, but were quickly arrested. Neighbors rushed to aid a woman, the victim of a home burglary February 20. She returned home in the 1000 block of South Glendora Avenue around 5 p.m. to find an armed man inside her home. He stole her cell phone as he fled, according to the Glendora Police Department. The suspect ran into a waiting black sedan that sped away. "Responding officers quickly identified both of the suspects through video surveillance from prior incidents involving mail theft, and from prior contacts with them,” according to the Glendora Police Department. Gabriel Arroyo, a 44-year-old Azusa man, and Aimee Rodriguez, a 43-year-old Baldwin Park woman, were arrested without further incident. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count each of residential burglary against both suspects. Arroyo posted $50,000 bond. Rodriguez remained in custody in lieu of $125,000 until an initial scheduled court appearance. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA – Methamphetamine and tools commonly used in vehicle burglaries were discovered after a bicyclist was stopped March 3, police said. Christopher Rangel, 36, was stopped on a bicycle near Grand Avenue and Route 66 at 1 a.m. Wednesday after allegedly committing a traffic violation. During the investigation, the officer discovered methamphetamine, a vehicle wedge pump, several lock picks and numerous vehicle keys, according to the Azusa Police Department. “An air wedge like the one photographed is commonly used by car burglars to pry open vehicle doors,’ according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Rangel was arrested and booked on suspicion of being in possession of burglary tools and narcotics. Rangel was issued a citation and released. Los Angeles County booking information did not specify a future court date. Police accuse Jesus Avina, 19, of driving around, using a knife to threaten his two victims and demand money and cell phone. Avina first threatened a female victim as she rode a bicycle near Yucca Place and Leadora Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Avina drove off and 10 minutes later, he brandished the knife at a man out for a walk near Palm Drive and Estrada Way. Avina allegedly escaped with the demanded property, according to the Glendora Police Department. A license plate number was obtained and detectives determined the suspect vehicle was reported stolen in Covina. Detectives also identified Avina as a suspect, Glendora Police said. “At about 1:30 p.m. Avina was located in Azusa while driving the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and transported the Glendora Police Jail. The weapon used in the robberies was located in Avina’s possession at the time of his arrest,” according to the Glendora Police Department. Avina has been arrested four time since November of 2020 for grand theft auto. He is also on probation for robbery. He was released a little more than two hours from the Covina Police jail under the current “zero-bail” order. He was in Covina Police custody for grand theft auto and allegedly stole the vehicle used in the Glendora robberies after his release, Glendora Police said. Police will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and seek two charges for robbery, one count of stealing a vehicle, possessing metal knuckles and possession of a concealed dagger. Before the pursuit even began, 41-year-old stolen vehicle suspect Richard Brady allegedly struck a Glendora officer and struck two Glendora Police vehicles while attempting to elude capture, the Glendora Police Department announced. A stolen SUV was discovered in an undisclosed motel parking lot. Glendora officers and detectives attempted to detain Brady as he was leaving a motel room, but he was able to get away, Glendora Police said. Brady struck the officer, patrol cars and an additional parked vehicle before even leaving the parking lot. Brady fled west on the 210 freeway until he crashed near Citrus Avenue and fled on foot, but he caught with the assistance of Azusa Police officers, Glendora Police said. “Brady is on probation for vehicle theft and he also had an arrest warrant for theft,” Glendora Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the case against Brady, charging him with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, reckless evading, vehicle theft and forgery. The officer who was struck sustained injuries and has since returned to work, Glendora Police said. Police served additional search warrants after the arrest of Azusa man Eric Matthew Ramirez, 34, at a home and storage facility and confiscated alleged stolen property belonging to more than 80 identified victims, Glendora Police said. The items taken exceed $10,000 in value, Glendora Police said. Police still seek the owners of dozens of items that have yet to be claimed. Police released the mugshot of Eric Ramirez, 34. He is accused of taking numerous items of property, including purses, backpacks, driver licenses, identification cards, checks, outdoor equipment, two stolen handguns and other miscellaneous items, according to the Glendora Police Department. A theft from a vehicle occurred around 8:30 p.m. near Glendora Mountain Road and Big Dalton Canyon Road. Glendora police tracked some of the stolen property to an Azusa home where some of the property was recovered, Glendora Police said. A search warrant helped detectives uncover a large quantity of other stolen items.
Ramirez was located hiding in residential yard roughly near Angeleno Street and Paramount Street. He fled over numerous walls to avoid captured. Ramirez injured his face right below his right eye. He was soon captured after injuring himself, Glendora Police said. “Detectives have identified property stolen from victims in multiple Southern California cities,” Glendora Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A Baldwin Park woman accused of mail theft and burglary was arrested May 18 after leading police on a brief chase. Jennifer Lopez, 44, from Baldwin Park, was arrested after driving into a cul-de-sac in Azusa where she surrendered to officers. She fled from them when they tried to stop her for reckless driving Saturday afternoon, according to the Glendora Police Department. During a vehicle search of the Toyota Camry Lopez was driving, police found mail from all over Glendora, including large delivered packages. Lopez also apparently almost ran over one of her victims as she fled while being confronted, Glendora Police said. Lopez and an unidentified man were also caught on surveillance camera attempting to burglarize a home in the 300 block of North Glendora Avenue May 18 -- the morning of the pursuit.
The male accomplice remains outstanding. The District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Lopez, including assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, residential burglary, felony identity theft and narcotics possession. A known gang member was arrested in an Azusa motel Friday, February 22, by Glendora Police detectives. A loaded handgun and a large quantity of methamphetamine was recovered during a search warrant, the Glendora Police Department said. Arrested in Azusa was Lawrence Wheeler, a 60-year-old Covina man. Detectives believe the methamphetamine was for sale. Tuesday, February 26, Glendora Community Impact Team Officers and Los Angeles County Probation conducted a probation compliance check in the 1200 block of East Gladstone Street. Officers seized an assault weapon, two handguns and a number of magazines, Glendora Police said. Arrested was Jennica Salagubang, 28, and Francis Maniti, 45. Both are from Glendora. James Hershey, 67, was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
Hershey was found in a parked, black Mercedes-Benz sedan on the right shoulder of the east 210 freeway west of Citrus Avenue around 1:30 p.m. The California Highway Patrol was called to a passerby report of a unresponsive person, according to a CHP press release. Hershey, a Glendora resident, was declared dead at 1:39 p.m. by firefighters, the CHP said. No one else was inside the vehicle, the CHP said. |
