Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A suspected DUI driver is accused of fleeing police on surface streets and freeways as far as Burbank and back east through Pasadena where the suspect crashed Saturday.
The suspect fled, with a passenger, when officers attempted a traffic stop on a speeding driver in the 1000 block of West Arrow Highway around 2:42 a.m. Saturday, May 13. The pursuit entered the west 210 freeway, according to Sgt. Shawna Celello of the Glendora Police Department. The driver exited the west 134 freeway onto South Buena Vista Street in Burbank and headed back east on the freeways. A set of spike strips deployed by the California Highway Patrol disabled the vehicle, which hit the center divider and stopped on the east 210 freeway west of Sierra Madre in Pasadena, Celello told SGV CityWatch. A female passenger exited and was detained. She was hospitalized and will not face charges, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male driver initially refused to exit the vehicle, so a Monrovia Police Department SWAT vehicle was called to help in detaining the male who eventually surrendered, Celello told SGV CityWatch. The male was cited, released in the field and was hospitalized. He is facing charges including evading officers and driving under the influence, Celello told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - The uninjured driver accused of crashing into a garage and severing a gas line that ignited a destructive fire Wednesday was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI.
Wanda Lewis, 52, was arrested at 5:16 p.m. She was booked at 6:26 p.m. and later released on a citation at 8:30 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Lewis was the only occupant of the SUV that smashed into a garage in the 2400 of Curtis Court December 28, according to Sgt. Josh Price of the Glendora Police Department. Lewis was able to free herself from the twisted wreck before the gas line ignited, Price told SGV CityWatch. The crash and fire heavily damaged a garage, burning property inside and burning the crashed SUV. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, other firefighters worked to pull the SUV off the gas line that fed the flames that burned the garage and crashed SUV. Court date information for Lewis was not readily available. The driver allegedly fled the scene of a crash in San Dimas and used the 210 freeway to escape, according to the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The driver crashed into the attenuators while exiting the westbound 210 freeway to Lone Hill Avenue at 1:15 a.m., according to Officer Rodrigo Jimenez of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. Jimenez identified the driver as Magda Knowles. Knowles’ Honda CRV landed on a guardrail. Knowles suffered a minor injury to one of her wrists. The only occupant of the vehicle, Knowles was arrested by the CHP for DUI, Jimenez told SGV CityWatch. Booking information was not readily available. The driver, 28-year-old Joshua Holland of Glendora, was westbound on Gladstone Street when the vehicle veered across lanes and struck a wall at Gladstone and Concord Lane at 12:21 p.m. April 27, according to Sgt. Jason Tibbetts of the Glendora Police Department. “After a series of field sobriety tests, he was arrested for DUI,” Tibbetts told SGV CityWatch.
Holland was the only occupant of the vehicle. No one else was injured, Tibbetts told SGV CityWatch. The crash occurred on southbound Glendora Mountain Road at Palm Drive around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect was reportedly driving at high speed when the crash occurred, according to Sgt. Ryan Layaye of the Glendora Police Department. Firefighters documented at least one patient being transported to a hospital, according to Marvin Lim, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman.
The vehicle the suspect drove left the roadway before crashing, Layaye said. The driver was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence, but booking information is not yet available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Days after being arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, hit and run, DUI and resisting arrest, a Covina man allegedly put up some items he stole online. William Nice, 57, was located in West Covina January 16 after police said he stole a truck from a mobile home park in the 400 block of East Route 66. The driver crashed into a passing vehicle as he fled, Glendora Police said. After receiving word of the truck’s location, Glendora Police arrived to a West Covina motel and witnessed a driver attempt to flee the parking lot in the stolen truck. The driver then tried to flee on foot, but was caught after attempting to flee over a wall, Glendora Police said. The truck as well as some of the victim’s stolen tools, found in a nearby car, were recovered. Nice posted $50,000 bail.
Glendora Police detectives learned January 23 that some remaining stolen tools were being posted online for sale. Glendora detectives and assisting officers served a search warrant in a Claremont motel and found Nice inside. some of the tools were located and recovered, Glendora Police said. “Nice was arrested a second time and booked for possession of stolen property. He was later released with a citation. Several of the victim's stolen tools are still outstanding,” Glendora Police said in a written statement. The solo crash occurred around 2:22 a.m. Monday near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Ada Avenue. The driver was uninjured and the vehicle did not strike the home, according to the Glendora Police Department. Phillip Eugene Martin, 37, was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Sgt. Shelly Gold of the Glendora Police Department. Martin was issued a citation and released, according to Los Angeles County booking records. No injuries were reported after the unidentified Long Beach man in a Honda Accord struck the other motorist, a 49-year-old Glendora man in a Toyota Corolla, on northbound Bonnie Cove Avenue at Arrow Highway at 6 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Rodrigo Jimenez. Officer Thomas saw signs of intoxication in the driver and after a thorough DUI investigation, the Long Beach man was arrested.
Two half-empty vodka bottles were found in the DUI driver’s vehicle. The CHP will have extra officers on patrol during the Maximum Enforcement Period this Labor Day Weekend, Jimenez said. The collision occurred at Foothill Boulevard and Glendora Avenue at 12:17 a.m. June 30, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
One driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Police identified the suspect driver, 31-year-old Glendora man Edgard Lopez. He was apparently booked on suspicion of felony DUI, but no such arrest record exists yet, either in Glendora Police booking, or in Los Angeles County booking records. |
