The burglary occurred in the 100 block of South Gordon Avenue around 1:59p.m. April 4. Officers watched the home and observed two suspects flee into a waiting vehicle with pillowcases full of alleged stolen property, according to Lt. Matt Fenner of the Glendora Police Department. Officers used their patrol vehicles to box in the suspect vehicle. Recovered were two handguns and jewelry. In all, $5,000 in property was taken. Arrested were Camilo Andres Lancheros Garcia, 22, and Daivyd Jair Buitrago Calderon. Both men were charged with first-degree burglary. Glendora Police Detectives served the search warrant at the apartment complex on Route 66 and Grand Avenue November 28. Detectives discovered multiple illegal firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, incendiary ammunition, weapon parts and manufactured equipment, according to the Glendora Police Department. Oscar Albert Ojeda, 38, was booked on suspicion of domestic battery, inflicting corporal injury on a child, manufacturing/selling/transporting an assault weapon, possessing a destructive device, criminal storage of a firearm and manufacturing/storing a short-barrel rifle, according to Glendora Police booking records. Ojeda posted bond the day of his arrest, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The incident unfolded November 1 at Walmart, 1950 Auto Centre Dr. “The suspect removed a fixed blade knife from his person and made threatening statements towards an employee before leaving the store with stolen merchandise,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Daniel Cervantes, a 37-year-old Pasadena man, was found near the Walmart. Officers booked him on suspicion of robbery and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger. Cervantes is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail at the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. He has already made two initial court appearances and pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Cervantes is expected to return to the West Covina Courthouse November 17. During the pursuit, a passenger tossed a handgun from the vehicle on the westbound 210 freeway just before the 605 freeway interchange. Officers ultimately recovered the gun, as well as narcotics and instruments described as burglary tools, according to the Glendora Police Department. The department’s Community Impact Team and detectives were conducting enforcement patrols in areas saturated by community complaints of drug sales occurring. A traffic stop was attempted on a vehicle whose driver reportedly committed several vehicle code violations, but the driver refused to stop, according to the Glendora Police Department. The driver and passenger were taken into custody. Arrested were Julia Victoria Barbosa, 24, and Joseph Jesse Marquez, 21. Barbosa was booked on suspicion of evading an officer with wonton disregard for public safety, identity theft, possessing a controlled substance, possessing burglary tools and a probation violation, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez was booked on suspicion of possessing counterfeit items, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to Glendora Police arrest records. Marquez posted $50,000 bail and was released February 19. Barbosa is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail. She has pending future court date from a previous crime. David Rivas, 34, allegedly fled from officers when they tried to stop him March 11. Rivas ran briefly from officers who eventually chased him down and arrested him. A handgun was located, according to the Glendora Police Department. Rivas was arrested just after midnight at Gladstone Street and Citrus Avenue. “A handgun was also located near where Rivas was arrested, and it was determined Rivas tried to discard it,” according to the Glendora Police Department in a written statement. Rivas was booked on suspicion of the unlawful taking of a vehicle, receiving known stolen property, evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety, hit and run, resisting a peace officer, being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public, possessing a controlled substance, possessing a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm, being a gang member while carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, altering/forging/falsifying registration and for a felony warrant. Rivas is being held in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in the West Covina courthouse March 15. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A reportedly-armed man was subdued Friday morning after he was allegedly seen brandishing a weapon, the Glendora Police Department said.
The suspect was witnessed brandishing a weapon in the area of Sunflower Avenue near the 210 freeway around 9:24 a.m. January 28. Police searched for the man who had used the nearby access road to make his way to Lone Hill Avenue and Auto Centre Drive, according to Lieutenant Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. The suspect was allegedly waving around the firearm. After officers subdued the man, they discovered it was a replica BB gun, Barrett told SGV CityWatch. The suspect, later identified as Luis Diaz Rogel, allegedly refused to comply to surrender and police had to speak with Diaz for roughly 10 minutes before he was subdued, Barrett told SGV CityWatch. Diaz was arrested at 10:08 a.m. He was booked on a misdemeanor offense at 3:28 p.m, according to Los Angeles County booking records, after being medically clear. He was reportedly hit with a stun gun. Diaz was released on a citation at 4:28 p.m., according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Police tracked down a self-admitted Azusa 13 gang member in a stolen vehicle after they say he committed two armed robberies in town Tuesday.
Police accuse Jesus Avina, 19, of driving around, using a knife to threaten his two victims and demand money and cell phone. Avina first threatened a female victim as she rode a bicycle near Yucca Place and Leadora Avenue around 6:30 a.m. Avina drove off and 10 minutes later, he brandished the knife at a man out for a walk near Palm Drive and Estrada Way. Avina allegedly escaped with the demanded property, according to the Glendora Police Department. A license plate number was obtained and detectives determined the suspect vehicle was reported stolen in Covina. Detectives also identified Avina as a suspect, Glendora Police said. “At about 1:30 p.m. Avina was located in Azusa while driving the stolen vehicle. He was arrested and transported the Glendora Police Jail. The weapon used in the robberies was located in Avina’s possession at the time of his arrest,” according to the Glendora Police Department. Avina has been arrested four time since November of 2020 for grand theft auto. He is also on probation for robbery. He was released a little more than two hours from the Covina Police jail under the current “zero-bail” order. He was in Covina Police custody for grand theft auto and allegedly stole the vehicle used in the Glendora robberies after his release, Glendora Police said. Police will present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and seek two charges for robbery, one count of stealing a vehicle, possessing metal knuckles and possession of a concealed dagger. |
