Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - Hours after a failed afternoon jewelry heist escalated in police gunfire, a search for a fleeing suspect ended Friday night.
Glendora police stated in a social media post that authorities were no longer searching for a suspect as of 10:42 p.m. and that road closures were over. It was not explicitly stated if a suspect was found. No arrest for a male robbery suspect exists in Glendora booking records, but records show 43-year-old Maria Luisa Valenzuela-Ayala was arrested at 2:09 p.m. at 750 W. Route 66. Valenzuela-Ayala was booked on suspicion of robbery. One suspect was killed by police gunfire after the suspect refused to comply with commands to surrender, according to Lt. Robert Westphal of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The shooting took place in the driveway of the mixed-use Glendora Park Place Apartments, 633 W. Route 66 September 6. Glendora Police responded to Jamal Jewelry, 750 W. Route 66, around 12:15 p.m. Friday to a takeover robbery. Witnesses described two men armed with handguns. Arriving officers also found a woman parked in a nearby vehicle and later arrested her. Police from surrounding agencies aided by two helicopters searched for the fleeing suspect in neighborhoods south of the crime scene. The outstanding suspect is a black man with a thin build, has short dreadlocks and the sides of his head are shaved. He may be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt or a white shirt and blue jean pants. |
