Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor GLENDORA - A special detail addressing quality of life issues netted multiple citations, arrests and a man carrying narcotics and a weapon. Two officers worked more than 10 hours September 28 throughout the city, ultimately issuing two citations and arresting five people. One man, a convicted felon, was arrested and found with methamphetamine and a concealed sawed-off shotgun, Glendora Police said. The convicted felon, Bernie Fonseca of El Monte, was on a bicycle when stopped by police near Mauna Loa Avenue and Glendora Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Lt. Marty Barrett of the Glendora Police Department. Fonseca was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being in possession of a controlled substance while armed, being a felon in possession of prohibited ammunition, possession of a controlled substance for sale and he also had an outstanding $50,000 narcotics warrant, Barrett said. The work was part of an effort by the Community Impact Team.
“...Their task at hand was to be visible in the community and business areas, walk foot beat at least 2 hours of their shift,” according to Glendora Police Chief Lisa Rosales in a social media post. “They conducted over 200 minutes of foot patrols, introduced themselves at 17 different businesses, made enforcement stops, and handled homeless issues citywide,” Rosales said. Fonseca is being held in lieu of $100,000 in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County booking records. |
