Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - 13 people were arrested January 1 after deputies uncovered an illegal gambling parlor. The parlor was discovered after a patrolling deputy attempted to detain a man and woman; the former reportedly passed a handgun to the latter in the 1300 block of Hacienda Boulevard around 9:23 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The woman fled into the location, locked the door and refused to exit, setting off a containment by Sheriff’s deputies. The woman refused to comply with orders to exit. While Industry Station detectives wrote a search warrant to enter the location, the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau arrived and were able to convince the woman to surrender, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. 11 others exited and were arrested, along with the man allegedly seen giving the woman a handgun.
The gambling parlor was discovered with the help of the search warrant. The initial male suspect was booked on suspicion of weapons charges and possession of methamphetamine for sales. the woman was booked on suspicion of a weapons charge. The other 11 people arrested were booked on suspicion of illegal gambling. Two of the 11 were additionally booked on suspicion of possessing a short-barrel shotgun. |
